Now obviously he would have to wait for an ideal opportunity, but could he pull it off? He'd have to fight a Jennings, Povetkin, or Teper type.. Someone shorter than the usual super heavyweight

    Tyson Fury is champion.
Deontay Wilder and Chales Martin hold belts.

    Anthony Joshua challenges Martin tonight.
Alexander Povetkin challenges Wilder in May.
Wladimir Klitschko challenges Fury in July.

There's NO opportunity for Ward there.

I doubt it, his style isn't suited to facing much bigger men and this era of heavies are even bigger.

RJJ was super fast and elusive and didn't fight in close, Toney and Byrd were super slick and didn't have a physical style on the inside like Ward does, Ward's usual inside game would be useless against much bigger men who would manhandle him in the clinch, Ward would need to change his style as well as facing a smaller heavy with a title.

Ward is 175 pound. How will a 175 pound man compete against men weighing 230+

He wouldn't be 175 if he moved at HW.

It wouldn't matter though, he doesn't possess Roy's speed or style.

I would assume he would bulk up but some on here try saying fighters don't need to bulk up to compete at HW.

Which HW champion though. Wilder, Fury, Joshua. There is no Ruiz title holder right now.

One way or another, the heavyweight title picture is going to tighten up over the next few years.

That's why I say right now but sure if someone like that held a title then sure at a certain point skill disparity overcomes size.

Might be physically possible but would you favor him against Martin? And now that Martin is beltless, who else would Ward have a chance against? Fury? Wilder? Joshua? Seems to me that he would be a very heavy underdog--I think Ward would have a hard time against the cruiserweight beltholders.

It depends on their circumstances, their weight etc.

I think any LHW would have to bulk up. Also, I believe there's limits in place. I think when Roy fought Ruiz for the WBA belt, he had to weigh a minimum of 190 pounds.

I think anyone would have to weigh 200 minimum today
