Can Anthony Joshua ever be considered p4p #1?

Of course he can.

If he beats Wilder & Usyk in his next two fights, he's #1 P4P.

 

Add Tyson Fury then he has a very solid claim, however after that there are no more elite level competitors for him to face, so although he may get to P4P No.1, he might start slipping down the rankings again depending on how other guys are doing.

Guys like Loma, Usyk, Crawford, Spence Jr, Canelo, GGG, Hurd, Charlo's, Taylor are all capable of unifying their respective devisions and beating all the top contenders there before moving up a division and unifying & being coming undisputed again. However, they actually have to do it for this to become a possibility.

It depends on what Loma Crawford do, AJ has an advantage of age over Crawford because lighter fighters age quicker and he`s already talkin g of retiring, if Bud does retire I feel that`s the only way AJ can possibly become No.1 P4P because he`s nowhere near Crawford`s level, beating Usyk would be a good win, but Usyk got a little exposed as an elite P4P fighterr vs Bellew because he was pretty easy to hit with counters whereas Loma isn`t fighting at the lighter weights and being quicker and smarter, that`s the problem with a P4P comparison, whereas heavyweights have to fight differently to avoid powerpunches, Loma and Crawford have and will fast better, faster offences, even Linares was throwing better combos than Fury can at the bigger weight despite him being a clever tactile heavyweight. Beating Wilder will be really difficult, but what have you really achieved, DW is clearly extremely dangerous but he`s not on the level of Loma and Crawford and skillwise a lot of their opponents are better or just faster than Wilder, it`s too difficult, AJ may become P4P No.1 and he may deserve it but he will never match the amazing skills of lighter elite fighters like Loma or Crawford, I could be wrong, but I doubt it. (would AJ be the first British P4P No.1 fighter in the world ever in the history of boxing?). Was Calzaghe or Lewis ever P4P No.1 in the ring magazine?

 

Was pound for pound not created for the lower divisions?

 

It's not impossible, but he'd have to do something extraordinary, IMO. His resume would have to be so stellar that the considerable deficiencies in his overall game could be consummately overlooked. Beat the winner of Fury/Wilder, beat Usyk, then mop up any remaining contenders (Whyte II, Miller, maybe a fast-tracked Joyce or a resurgent Parker) then to top it all off; reign supreme as undisputed champ for a few years over the next generation of contenders (Hrgovic, Gassiev, Teslenko, Dubois, Ajagba etc etc).

I highly doubt he has all of that in him.

 

Depends on a lot of other fighters' progress and declines aside from his own success, but I doubt it.

Looking at a realistic next 5 fights somewhat along the lines of: Whyte, Pulev, Miller, Fury/Wilder winner, Usyk, I think.

 

If he beats fury and wilder then yes, and dominates a few years after then hes p4p number 1 and an atg.

 

He's not that great, how can he be considered #1p4p for beating guys who aren't that great themselves. I mean he's good, just not p4p #1 good.

For me, not a chance in hell. How many of his opponents have even been the same size as him? He has had a massive size advantage in one way or another against almost all of his opponents if not every single one of them. And if he beats Whyte again, Wilder, and Usyk? Well, same story. Let's be real, his physical profile and physical prowess are why he beats his opponents, not skills.

 

Usyk is no.2 or no.3 P4P lists and he just beat pretty much everyone in the top 5 of that division. Undisputed. It’s not even subjective. He beat Gassiev, the no.2, who’s very well skilled and showed a lot by beating Dorticos.

Unless AJ beats Fury/wilder and Usyk, and they’re both fights that include more workings of a technician at work, he can’t really break the top 3.

 

Not meaning to be oppositional on purpose, but Wilder is actually taller than AJ. If you mean a physical advantage from size in terms of muscle, that could actually be detrimental in the ring.

 

He's owning his division... just that the division sucks.
