I have not watched much of Oscar De La Hoya's fights until I saw him in the podcast of Erik Morales recently, just reading his resume it is insanely impressive how many big names he has accumulated. They were discussing about the future of the contenders in Golden boy in a short segment and I was wondering if it is possible for any of them to actually out do what De La Hoya has accomplished as a boxer? Seeing Ryan's or Jaime Munguia's opposition it seems highly unlikely, Vergil Ortiz Jr might not have faced lot of boxers but he is stepping up his resume with Quality rather than Quantity. This is not the whole resume, but these are his most notable fights Oscar de la hoya's resume: This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Come on now….we live in the duck duck duck until you get one big payday era. Fighters today are jokes.
Jeff Mayweather and Charpentier shouldn't be on a list of notable fights/wins. Genaro Hernandez should 100% replace them. And to answer the question, unless something dramatically changes with the matchmaking at Golden Boy, the answer is no, none of those guys are going to get close to this list.
I edited the resume. I apologize about the voting poll, it was originally about vergil but then I switched it to any fighter that was promoted by Golden Boy. Even some of his losses have been highly competitive excluding the Pacquiao fight. In the Felix Trinidad fight Oscar should had won. According to the media Shane Mosley had taken EPO in the second fight although he states he didn't know Victor Conte was supplying him. Oscar was faded against Mayweather yet put a good fight. With the current opposition in some divisions and the matchmaking, I cannot see most boxers in his promotion accomplishing much. Unless Canelo counts, I guess? he was promoted by him not long time ago.
Oscar is an oddball, but he was a terrific fighter. Got to respect what he did with his career if you're a boxing fan.
Oscar really had a pretty "Godly" resume especially considering he became a part-time boxer. No one he promotes is gonna top that. Canelo is the closest but I'd say Oscar still shades him. Media and money being what it is these days give the appearance that Canelo's fights are bigger, but they really aren't. Adjust for era and it's clear.
No one will. Canelo would be the obvious choice, but he's more interested in title hopping than the names that make you great. As for some of the rest, Loma would have been a good contender for that, but became a pro at too old an age. Most of the rest of the guys in boxing have no chance. PBC will ensure a lack of greatness for their roster....but hey, they'll get paid well i suppose.
