I really don’t get it if somebody can help me, Ryan has never fought a top 5 guy ever never been a champion never fought a champion ever, Tank ain’t fought a legit top 5 guy since 2018 and even then it was little Leo Santa Cruz coming up.. tank not no real champ both guys have been actively avoiding the best fighters in and around they division.. yet for some reason we keep getting told this is a major fight and that they the face of boxing and blah blah blah… can anybody explain why we putting so much energy into these 2 jokers who have done nothing in the sport of boxing of relevance?
What exactly don't you get? Showtime might be slightly overstepping by calling it the biggest fight of the year, but ...we're talking a pair of young, undefeated, high-KO-percentage, long-buzzed-about, p4p-ranked, major talents of their generation, who are both universally rated top 5 in their weight class (an original 8 weight class, btw, a glamour division historically second only to HW, welter, and sometimes middle) and probably top 40 on any current p4p list ...overcoming all promotional and negotiating table obstacles to put their zeroes on the line and help move one step closer to becoming "the man" of the division and establishing a clear lineage. And they have genuine mutual dislike if not outright enmity, and their styles on paper should mesh entertainingly. I don't see how you could possibly fail to understand the hype, tbh.
If you're dogging Tank for not fighting many threats or top flight competition his own size and his own age - well, cool. I agree. But he is now. Kingry is a threat, and many people give him a solid chance here. What's to complain about?
Dude how are either one of these guys p4p anything?or major talents at all? Don’t you have to fight somebody good to be considered a talent or p4p? As far as promotional issue all these promoters are already working with each other, the excuses only comes up when guys don’t want to fight.. you been on this site for a long time you know good boxing and good boxers how does either one of these guys fit that description? And it’s already a top dog at 135 the undisputed champ you know the guy that both Tank and Ryan have already ran from? Look at all the major unification fights or title fights between 130-140 how many have tank and Ryan been involved in? And how many of these guys have they fought??? None at all
ryan isn’t a threat to anybody good, maybe he a threat to tank because tank a hypejob yr Ryan been actively running away from the top fighters at 135, where I’m from you gotta fight somebody to get respect
I don't like Tank Davis in the least, but he is extremely gifted in terms of raw athleticism, on top of which he is the beneficiary of Floyd Mayweather's tutelage (access to premier coaching, sparring, nutrition and overall groomed for success) and has performed well enough against B-grade opposition to stake a legitimate claim as top 5 h2h at lightweight, not just a paper champ. Kingry is maybe a bit less proven overall but with his speed and power (and more than decent boxing skills, IMO comfortably ahead of the more power-reliant Davis') and his own ATG mentor & guardian angel in ODLH, you'd have to be insane to not consider him a force as well.
Acting like they're both jumped-up nobodies and the outcome has no bearing on the state of LW is just wild. You're way out by yourself on a bowed & cracking limb here.
bro Floyd was fighting HOF champions at 21, Tank is 28 and hasn’t fought nobody remotely good outside of Leo Santa Cruz 2 divisions above where he made his name… Oscar was fighting elite level comp at 20/21 Ryan is 24/25 and has never faced a champion ever… these guys ain’t Floyd and Oscar lmao this is chump a*s tank Davis and scary a*s Ryan. I mean if we being real that’s the only reason ppl think they good due to association with Floyd and Oscar but they not them…
While it is an interesting fight, it also highlights the current state of boxing. This is a cheif support undercard bout on a HBO card, or a main event on Friday Night fights.
that’s what I’ve been saying honestly I think it’s bad for boxing, this fight gives guys incentives to sit around fighting nobodies instead of actually going out being the best.. it turned from whose fighting who to who has the most IG followers
I think FNF is a bit of a stretch there. But agreed. I myself get the hype. Both have clearly built up fanbases and it´s a good fight on paper. However, I don´t see why hardcore fans would be too hyped, considering how lackluster both of their careers have been. Ryan has been stepping up in competition slowly and he did fight Campbell... but that was in January 2021. Both guys have been avoiding the best in their divisions, for the most part. And now I am supposed to get hyped that they are fighting each other? Nah. But hopefully the winner actually does something with their career. They are clearly both talented.
I can agree with that last part if the winner actually finds they nuts and starts fighting the best they’ll get hella credit from me, but this is a step up fight that happens between young prospects trying to make the leap to the next level not no super mega fight
