Not imposing anything but at Judah-Clottey, I seen Margarito several times that night around the palms and he never took off his sunglasses.

Looking at his face, u'd think it was Margarito who'd lost. But good on him to recover and look to the future.

Hope he comes back and kick up a good ol storm in the WW. The more fighters in tht division in the mix, the better for us fight fans.

Every fighter has his nemesis, Margarito was Cotto's, like Hearns was for Duran, like Tarver was for Jones, its what makes this sport one of the best.

amazing he can be so.... open and up front and not try to desguise any feelings or make excuses. That is true confidence imo.....

  4. Host: Congratulations papa, to us you're still the champion :)patsch)
    Cotto: Thank you
Host: After many speculations on the radio, tv, written press .. it would be good to hear straight from the champion's mouth .. how are you feeling today?
Cotto: Very good, completely healed from the bruises and swelling and I'm feeling very good, thank god.
Host: So you're all recuperated, nothing with the arm? every thing's in perfect state?
    Cotto: Everything is good.
Host: When you were in the ring, I was watching the fight, many things worried me, I was worried when you were getting hit hard and I want to ask you if at any moment did you feel you were losing the fight?
Cotto: The first part of the fight we knew we were winning, but then I began to feel the effect of the punches and started to feel a little worn out, and I realized it's better to have good health, there's more days ahead, I still have many years left in boxing and decided to put a knee down.
Host: Ok, in your case as a boxer and champion I imagine that decision was very hard to make because you're thinking 'I'm the champion with no losses' .. was it you that made the decision or your corner?
Cotto: I was the one that made it, my family was there, my children were present and I was thinking more about them rather than the beating I was getting.
Host: Did you get to see them?
Cotto: Yes I did, a few times.
    Host: Really?
Cotto: Yes, there were right next to my corner.
    Host: Does it affect ...
Cotto: Well, in this case it did a little but they've always known what my job is and what the risks are.
Host: They are used to it?
Cotto: They're not used to seeing dad in the situation that they saw me a week ago but they know the risks of my job.
Host: You gotta be brave to get up there?
Cotto: Very much, gotta be brave to get up there but it's part of the job, had a bad day but I know many good ones are still ahead.
Host: Miguel being honest, and you always tell it like it is, is it harder to get on the ring or making the decision of putting the knees down?
Cotto: I think in my case it was harder to put a knee down, like you said I didnt have a loss in my record and to lose this way it was difficult for me, but I want health and I want to see my children grow up and that's what matters.
Host: Now that you tell me that it was you that made the decision not your corner, which is very important, did it ever cross your mind all the reactions that would come after your decision? Did you think about that?
Cotto: No it was all for the benefit of me and my family, I could care less about the comments people make.
Host: For example I heard a comment like ... 'he didn't train hard enough to get on the ring'
Cotto: I always train hard before getting on the ring, Margarito was better than me that night.
Host: For this one you even said you trained more than any other fight.
Cotto: Yes, that's how I felt.
Host: Also comments that you were drinking and partying in Las Vegas
Cotto: I *slight stutter* party and have fun but on my time off, Im very responsible with my job, there's two things I'm very responsible with, my job and my family and I don't play around with them.
Host: So what will you be doing now?
Cotto: Im gonna stay doing this..
Host: So it doesn't end here?
Cotto: No, no, no absolutely not, I'm currently 27 years old and I have many years left of good boxing, just need a good rest and we'll see what happens the rest of the year.
Host: And your corner, will there be any changes?
Cotto: No, no, no my corner will stay the way it is, this was not a mistake made by one person, if anyone was at fault , it was the entire team and we are willing to take responsibility for it.

This is a real man talking, I wish some esb posters would learn from this.

What are you talking about? The guy I responded to said that Americans always make excuses as to why they lose, and suggested that non American fighters don't do this. I responed by naming several non American fighters who made excuses after they lost. I didn't even mention Cotto. He made no excuses.

    Exactly right.

Miguel Cotto made the right decision at the right time. He has more important issues to think about than what his fans will say on Eastside Boxing. Miguel Cotto will be back.

It's all good. I don't hate Cotto. I've grown to really like the guy as a fighter.

I've watched this fight 6 times already. It is my favorite fight. It is just amazing to me to see a man walk into the ring 120% confident, execute the gameplan the exact way he was supposed to, fight the fight that he 100% believed if he fought he would win, give everything he had to fight off his opponent.....to only slowly but surely and steadily be COMPLETELY broken down by a Man who wouldn't back down, who wouldn't slow down and who was determined to destroy him. Watching Margarito take clean, crisp, hard combos round after round and never sway from his path. watching Cotto desperately try and fight him off and stay out of his range is what this sport is all about. Unbelievable performance by both men. They both gained respect and admiration from me that night.
