I have never seen him fight, but found his record on boxrec. He is 35 years of age and has nothing particularly impressive in terms of names on his resume, but hey he's 29-0. I'm guessing he's probably a mediocrity with a padded record, but as I said, I've never seen him fight. Thoughts?
He works out at a gym about 15 miles from mine (Raleigh, NC) and trains with my trainer. I work at a couple gyms so I have met and talked to him several time. Hes a really nice guy, but doesnt seem to want to pursue it farther than it's been. While he's 29-0 all of those fights have been against no names and when hes had chances to fight bigger names something seemed to of come up, either with him or the other guy (I've heard both). From what I've noticed/collected though is he had Gary Shaw as a promoter (who is an ass), but he has a new one now, and he also has just started a family, so he's a little busy with that I think. He's also a respected diesel mechanic so it's not like he needs the money, but I think he's really just in boxing for the love of the sport, not competition. Again though, I've only spoke with him a handful of time so...
Yep. Lots of critics bash him but I dont think he needs that... or deserves it... He appears to be a good dad too.
To be honest with you, I don't know why the hell anyone who is capable of earning a decent living otherwise would want to partake in pro boxing. Sure, its great to have a few fights just for fun to say you did it, and Holmes has already done this. But, 99.999999% of all fighters, never reach the stage where they are earning million dollar paydays or basking in the celebrity sunlight anyway. They end up dealing with scumbag managers and promotors, plus usually end up in sad shape later on. Holmes is better off.
