I consider Hank Kaplan one of the best, and most objective boxing historians we've ever had...and just ordered that book!

 

It was also me in the Tunero's corner with a towel soaked in an ancient haitian ritualistic potion before that fateful last round against Jock.

 

Kid Tunero was a great fighter but truth is, Jock McAvoy was a sickening puncher with scary power.
It's no surprise Kid Tunero thought he was drugged and turned into a zombie, the shock of the punches probably skewed his perception of time and event. Sometimes fighters are just too proud to admit to themselves they got their clock cleaned.

 

He looked like **** against McAvoy. If he was supposed to be a great fighter and very slick then I can believe he was drugged against McAvoy because he certainly doesnt look great or slick. That fight appears to be prior to his prime though so that could be it also.

 

Yes. He probably learned to be more slick after Jock McAvoy beat him up.
