Can anyone tell me why Muhammad Ali is so revered outside the ring?

He was an idiot, a hugely entertaining, athletic and charismatic idiot, but still an easily manipulated idiot.

 

Nobody is flawless.

Ali will remain the single greatest sportsman ever, regardless of what you spineless cretin think.

An idiot who excelled in his field, saved a few lives, inspired a few million, gave a significant amount of his wealth to charity, took a political stance very few were willing to take and was regarded as an icon of his time.

I guess it puts the lives of others in perspective.
