What I am asking is, can Berto be the man at welter sometime in the future? I know that at this moment he wouldn't be able to beat a Margo or Cotto and maybe not even a Clottey. But do you see potential in him where one day he can become the man?

    Only time will tell.

Rightnow he is an untested belt holder . . . not even a single fight against rated opponents.

I think it he's untested really. In a few years he'll be at 154 and that's where I think he'll shine.

I think his height is a problem for him....don't see him beating taller guys like Williams or Margarito. I think he could beat Clottey and Mosely if they fight next year.

he's pretty much laughed at all his opponents so far, literally, which is never a good sign. but i think he has the athletic ability to go really far. his speed is unquestionably note worthy, and he does not lack power that i can tell.

    maybe?

Berto will eventually be the guy at WW in a few years but as Paul Williams is WW i dont think so.

Nope.. I don't see him beating Cotto, Margo, Clottey or Mosley.. Maybe in a year or two, but I still don't think he'll reach that #1 spot..

Absolutely. He's been fighting regularly on HBO so he has some exposure. As far as his skill set he's only 25 and is still developing. People have questioned his defense which has been improving and as far as the chin criticism I personally haven't seen any real evidence of a weak chin. He brings an exciting style with power and speed and his signature punch is the uppercut. Not only can he one day be a welter weight star but maybe even one of the faces of the sport of boxing.

I agree. Berto may be lacking in the defensive and chin categories, but boy oh boy is he an exciting fighter. And yes, that fast uppercut could spell doom for someone like Cotto.

I'm with you man. I like this kid a lot. Of course he could turn out to be a dud but I think he's getting better with every fight and with his style people will tune it to see him fight. It's still a bit too early to tell but I think he definitely has a shot to enter the P4P Rankings.
