Great boxer...Lt.Heavyweight champ...beat 10 former or future world champions...ALMOST beat Joe Louis for the title in June 1941...Angelo Dundee said he was one of the best boxers that he'd ever seen...
He boxed beautifully against Louis and practically dominated the fight on the scorecards despite getting stopped late. It was one of the best performances by the losing fighter. Conn is top 20 P4P all time IMO, but I wouldn't argue with those who have him rated higher.
Yeah except the first part is not true; had Louis swept the last three rounds he would have pulled off a draw. Plus Louis had made 5 defenses in 5 months. Its possible he was a bit stale.
skill wise eubank was great, but i rate watson and benn more, they went to america to fight the best, and in eubank benn II i had benn winning, and the first watson fight should of been a L and the second one he pulled out a huge punch when loosing i give him credit for that, the main thing with calzaghe was, he wouldnt travel out of mancheser/wales, and the other problem was his hands were ****ed. as for billy conn, he did well for most of the fight but most isnt all. and he lost.
