Hearn and Smith both mentioned Benavidez last night. Would smith beat him, and how would he do against Ramirez and Uzcategui?
Playing devil’s advocate, does he really need to unify? None of the rival champions bring much to the table, either at the box office or in terms of prestige. Any one or more of Ramirez, Benavidez or Uzcategui may develop into something bigger, but as it stands it would be a lot of effort bringing together a fragmented and weak division that lacks star power. Callum is the man now at 168; he had the balls to enter the tourney, and the class to win it. He should call the shots. He’s probably better off building his domestic profile off Eubank (or DeGale), and looking at someone like Jacobs if he moves to 168. At some point you’d expect Smith to end up at 175, where there are bigger names and fights out there.
He should be going for a unification fight now and if he can't get it move up to a stacked 175..it would be baffling to me if he's fighting the likes of degale or eubank jr next year.
Probably whats going to happen though isn't it. End of the day it's their job, going to take the fights which make sense financially, and who can blame them really.
Wouldn't surprise me tbh..all depends on the fighter I suppose, does he want to go for the big unifications or not.lets hope Callum does.
Dunno, but he's not as good as everyone is making out now just because he beat a jaded Goethe groves, was pretty poor in his 2 fights before that
