Calzaghe can gain respect even if he loses a close decision. Winning one would do him a world of good.

One of the most sane things I've read from you!

I agree, Calzaghe needs to have a very close fight to get respect. Walking over your opponents just makes people undermine your opponents

Calzaghe needs to win at least 9 rounds to stay level. Anything less than that and questions will be asked. Just the way it is, if you're going to be objective....:conf

In all seriousness, I actually give Calzaghe credit for coming to the US and taking this fight in the first place.

He could easily have continued hiding in the comfortable confines of Europe, taking on tomato cans like Clinton Woods, etc.

By coming here to take on a dangerous opponent like Hopkins, he is taking a big risk, and I respect that. He's daring to be great! Something Jones and Michalczewski never dared try!

    Complete bull****.

If Calzaghe wins, he will officially transcend to the big time.

Well, most of my recent posts pertaining to this fight have been utter bull****. If you've read any of my more serious posts (which admittedly have been few and far between), I actually like Calzaghe.

However, it's too much fun making wind-up posts, because you Calzaghe fans are rather easy targets.

    ;)

That said, I sincerely believe Hopkins is going to outclass him. If I'm wrong, it won't be the first time, and surely, it won't be the last. I will NOT try to discredit Joe should he win by stating Hopkins was too old, etc.

If Joe wins, it's because he's the better man.

I just seriously doubt he can pull it off. I think Hopkins is going to cause him all types of problems.

Well, I don't consider myself a fan per se of Calzaghe, even though I do like him as a fighter. I agree that the average JC fan over estimates him but there are as many haters who completely and ridiculously under estimate him even when they have been proved wrong. So I guess it goes both ways.

I've been leaning towards JC by close UD but I can easily see Hopkins pulling off the upset and getting a close UD himself. Neither fighter will dominate the other, that's for certain.

Actually, I would not be the least bit surprised if Hopkins dominates him over the final six rounds.

He should get the same credit but he wont! Even if he wins convincingly people will say its because Hopkins is past it!! Its a curse Joe is gonna have to live with. He'll be appreciated for how good he really is only about 10 years after he retires

Let's see how good he really is come Saturday night.

Because if he does lose to Hopkins, as I fully expect he will, his entire career is suddenly shifted into a new light, where his biggest wins against Eubank and Kessler suddenly don't look so hot.

The fight will get closer as it goes on. Joe is more than capable of adjusting his game plan if things don't go his way. Bhop doesnt have enough tricks to keep him out of his game for 12 rounds.

On the contrary, I believe he does.

Hopkins tends to get stronger as the fight goes on.

Joe's best work, I suspect, will come early.

I see the reserve being true. An over eager Joe will find himself eating some straight right hand counters early on which will make him realise he's in a proper fight and he'll fight more cautiously. The championship rounds will decide the outcome, not cement it.
