I think that his 45-0 is more impressive than Marciano's 49-0 or that Ricardo Lopez 51-0. But can Calzaghe fight 5 more times and win those fights? 5 fights would take Calzaghe two years (his last 5 fights were done from March 2006 until April 2008 ), which would mean he has to fight until he's 38 years old.
Calzaghe should fight Jones and 4 more easy contenders at 168 or 175. He should stay away from Dawson and Pavlik.
Nah, he holds a massive stylistic advantage over Pavlik. He'd take him apart. Dawson, however, would be an extremely tough fight. If it happens in a year or more, I'd probably go for Dawson.
I don't think he'll fight enough of fights to get to 50-0 before he retires.. Only potential opponents I can see him fighting now is Roy Jones or even Chad Dawson, and both of those fights could be possible losses.. He'll probably fight on or two more and then retire..
Marciano's record was impressive because he was a heavyweight where people get KOed all the time. Unless Joe has fought the very best he could have, remaining undefeated don't mean a huge amount.
If his rate of decline continues, he would have trouble with Pavlik a year from now. Especially if Pavlik continues to improve.
He can take both those guys at this point. And what would be the point of fighting five non-contenders just to get to fifty?
No way in HELL is JC's 50-0 even good enough to wipe the butts of Finito's 51-0-1 or Marciano's 49-0 record. NOT EVEN CLOSE.
