Well, he never fought a really big heavyweight. And he only had 49 fights in that era...most boxers had more than 60 fights.
Sorry to serve up such a softball <g> .. but way to hammer that pitch ... took almost a whole hour to do that one .. it was almost like it was invisible or something to E(uro)SB fan-atics .. why is that? :yep
I think Calzaghe will follow the steps of Trinidad, Jones and Hopkins. He will fight until he is 39 or more. That means he will definitely fight 5 more times. So there's a possibility of him reaching 50-0. But he must not fight Dawson, and also should avoid Pavlik imo. Actually, he should avoid anyone that is hungry. He has cleaned his division, there's nothing left to prove. He should fight Jones and 4 contenders (maybe Antonio Tarver, Erdei and two bums).
You think he should avoid Pavlik? I see this as a great fight for Calzaghe because it's against an undefeated, name opponent whom he would hold a major stylistic advantage over.
Based on what? Pavlik is no bigger than pretty much every person Calzaghe has faced with the exception of Manfredo since beating Salem. If Lacy, hitting him flush, couldn't rock him and Kessler nailing him with uppercuts couldn't hurt him, what makes you think Pavlik will? What makes you think Pavlik will find a home for his face, he's not the slickster Hopkins is.
I don't see Calzaghe reaching 50-0. I see him having two more fights and thats it, he will retire. I'm not sure about it being more impressive then Marciano. I havn't taken much notice of what Marciano did but I do know he didn't have as many title fights as Joe Calzaghe did, but then the caliber of fighters for Calzaghe isn't the highest. Kessler, Hopkins have been some big names. Jeff Lacy maybe, I never saw anything to special in Jeff Lacy as much as alot of others did but I do give Calzaghe alot of credit to what he did to Jeff Lacy in their fight. I'd say he will be fighting Roy Jones next, I hope Jones wins. I like Calzaghe, he seems to be a nice guy and I'm not wishing that he loses because I dislike him, but more of because I've been a fan of Roy Jones for quite some time now and I only ever heard of Calzaghe when he fought Mikkel Kessler.
Nah, he couldn't have. Dawson is the only guy. I don't know...unless Byrd gets a major second wind. :think
