I don't recall this ever happening. Is there a way that it can happen? I remember Holy-Valuev was being "investigated" which nothing came of that. Btw, that fight was terribly scored. Regardless if there were no bribes, etc., there should be a way to overturn scores. I know someone is going to be an ******* and say "well then we need ot do this to all controversial fights" but come on....this was a plain robbery. EDIT: Changed in terms of a horrible decision or corruption. Not testing positive for PED's or whatever.
yes, fights have been overturned but i can't recall one from the judges scorecards. the ones that have been changed were changed to no contests from recent memory. it's ridiculous. amateur boxing changed their whole scoring system rather than give jones a gold medal in the olympics. comical.
I certainly wish they could, all of these robberies happen and then the same judges get hired over and over again. It makes me sick.
I should have clarified my question. I meant due to like corruption or horrible officiating. Not drug tests, or whatever the random case is.
not that i know of in the pros but i do recall some amateur bouts that were overturned in the past few years.
Can't be overturned by scoring alone if not a mathematical error as it is based on opinion of the judges. Only if there is direct proof of corruption. But on judging alone a decision cannot be overruled on it's own.
Gotcha. Is that guessing or in writing? I would hope corruption is defined lighty because you could just have 3 idiots who don't like a guy, give the decision to the other guy, and not find any evidence of "corruption" ya know?
James Toney has had two decisions overturned on him. The first against Ruiz and the second against Rahman.
Yes. In this case it will be hard to do anything other than suspend as they had those same judges do every bout on the card. I believe it was 6 or 8 which is insane for an HBO fight and doubly insane to have the inexperienced judges do this in an state where there are so many great judges nearby. IMO I believe the judges were all brought in, paid handsomely and understood what the priority was for the evening.
