Its a very winnable fight, against his biggest rival, likely to be minutes from his home, on a massive PPV card and most importantly its for more double his highest every purse. Can he really turn it down?
I think DeGale holds all the cards here. Rob is right. DeGale would be insane to turn this down. Who gives a f**k about a WBOgus shot, really? He'll get that anyway down the line.
I can't see how degale gets out of the fight. Sure Warren will try to lure him with a world title offer, but this is the fight James wants IMO. In a recent interview, degale said groves has to take the fight this year as Degale wouldn't stay at domestic level 'MUCH LONGER'. That leads me to believe he will have at least 1 more fight at British/ European level before going for world honours. Is there a better opponent available? Nope. It's a very winnable fight, 1 which he can get 1 over on his old rival, one which he can silence his critics by facing a big puncher, and one which he will make shitloads of cash from. IMO, if he turns it down it's a duck. There's plenty of time for him to win a world title, just put it off until the summer ad take care of groves in april.
Yes he can but, in my opinion, he shouldn't as it could be a very easy night for him. In fact, I think the fight not happening for another year or 2 is the best thing that can happen to Groves.
DeGale wants the fight so Warren should let him take it Warren wont want to loose his golden goose, so should keep DeGale happy
Why is this fight so straight forward for degale all of a sudden? I agree, Degale is the better boxer of the two, and I actually prefer him, but Groves is better than anyone James has beaten to date. Groves would also be the biggest puncher degale has fought, and arguably has the best chin of any of Degale's opponents. Geroge has also been back from adversary, being badly hurt and still coming bck to win in style. While I pick degale to win, it's far from comfortable!
I wouldn't say Groves chin is better than Smiths. I agree with you Vano. To call it a mismatch is crazy. Have we ever seen DeGale take a big shot, or even lose a round. See how he reacts. Theres so many unanswerd questions about JD. We know allot more abut Groves, some of it bad but some of it good. I am not doubting DeGales heart but have heard and a few others will verify he doesn't like a tear up. Few of you will know the Anthony Small sparring story.
