Can Evander Holyfield become the first 50 year old hw champion? I think that it is a real possibility. He's turning 48 this month and doesn't want to retire. Next year if Haye doesn't want the K-bros, then Holyfield could fight him. I think Holyfield has a good shot at beating Haye based on both of their performances against Valuev. After beating Haye he woul just have to hold on to the belt for one year.

This tread is proof that the HW division is in bad shape. :-(

As much as I hate Haye there is no way Holy beats him at age of 50. why?
Haye will probably retire by than.

He said haye, not the K brothers. :deal

Unfortunately I think it's possible, but only because of the poor state of the division behind the Klits and the corrupt mess that's the WBA, who give their former "champs" titleshot after titleshot even if they haven't beaten a serious opponent for 5 years. I do think Haye is a lot better than current Holy though (would be very bad if he wasnt), but I give him a 10-20% chance if he gets a shot at him.

    No.

Holyfield gets a lot of sentimental credit for his effort against Valuev. It was a spirited performance for an old man, but Valuev was as disinterested in fighting as a boxer can be and he still had Holyfield on the ropes and in trouble twice in the late rounds. Holyfield should have won the first six, but if you rewatch the fight, you will see how he faded after the sixth round. Besides, this was Holy's only good fight in years and with the punishment he took, he is deteriorating just by aging. Haye would probably dominate him, as would Eddie Chambers, Adamek and several others.

Because one ****** is seriously asking this question it makes the HW-divison ****?

You think if Nigel Benn came out of retirement he could become the SMW-champ again?
According to your logic me asking that question is proof that the SMW-divison is in bad shape.

And no, there is absolutely no chance of Holyfield becoming a HW-champ.

Holyfield beat Valuev, but wouldn't beat any other elite fighter now. Ibragimov beat him with ease. Klitschkos, Haye, Adamek, Povetkin, Chagaev, Chambers would have no trouble with him. The next bunch of propspects coming up are practically half his age- its hard to see what he does now

Matters how bad the champion is in 2 years. Anyone can be champ if the division is bad and the opponent is handpicked. Look how Jones could become champ by handpicking a guy like John Ruiz. Jones would never have picked a legit hard punching champion.

There isn't a champ anywhere near as crappy as Ruiz around, and there won't be for years with the talent pool out there. There isn't really a soft champ to handpick.
