The more I think about it, the more disappointing it is that Floyd didn't get this honor. Some article or mailbag on, I think on maxboxing, laid it out pretty well. Essentially the jist was Floyd was a champion in five weight classes while being undefeated in the decade. Manny racked up some belts, but he also drew twice and lost! Thus, there were three fights where he WASN'T the winner. Sure, he has had a very nice run these last three years, but one of those draws was in that time period. Floyd did nothing but win and yet, most of the scribes didn't see him as the FOTD. Whatever. His efficiency in the ring is the stuff of legend. There has never been someone with his style that has been so successful. It's been a treat to watch him.
ok....what fight would he been an underdog? anyways Floyd retired....only reason he didnt win it...he made it easy for Pac to win by retiring and not only that he came back to fight Marquez...he made horrible decisions.
That's basically all Mayweather can claim. Pac won titles in 6 divisions over the decade, including 3 lineal titles. Beat the better opposition, 5-1-1 (3KOs) record over the greatest lighter weight fighters of his generation Barrera, Morales, Marquez, He avenged his only loss with 2 brutal knockouts over Morales, and finally got a W over Marquez after the controversial draw (which he technically should have won if not to a judging error). At the higher weights, where no-one imagined him being competitive, he made DLH quit on his stool, has a hellacious knockout over Hatton, and a stoppage of Cotto. Mayweather's was great in the decade. Pac's feats were legendary. Pus Mayweather took time off when his division was the hottest in boxing, avoiding big fights everyone was calling for with Cotto, Margarito, Mosley, Paul Williams. They're called 'legacy fights' for a reason. While Mayweather ran from them, Pac took on seemingly insurmountable challenges and each time shocked the world, leading to noted boxing historians comparing him to Henry Armstrong and Sugar Ray Robinson. Mayweather and his fanboys can spread all the propaganda they want about him being the greater fighter and how he'd whoop everybody he didn't fight. Pac earned Fighter Of The Decade honors in the ring, and by rewriting history in the annuls of boxing. No degrading insults or baseless steroid allegations will ever change that.
He won't be around long enough to pick it up for the next decade, however he does stand a chance of being the first boxer to win the fighter of the year award in 3 separate decades which would be a fitting honour to show his longevity at the top end of the sport.
If Pacquaio is fighter of the decade what does that make Marquez? He kicked his ass twice :yep Pacquaio only beat Morales after Raheem and MAB were done with him. Hatton and Delahoya were Mayweather leftovers. Cotto was a Margarito leftover. MAB 1 was a great win ofcourse although the rematch wasn't If you're going to accuse Mayweather of ducking fighters, ask why Pacquaio didn't face Joan Guzman and Roach said he didn't fancy facing Guzman. And then there's all the top prime fighters he missed in each division. We'll see who's the rightful fighter of the decade in Nov :yep
lol, thats what i thought. reading comprehension is not his forte. squacking bull**** is a whole other matter.
