Against Taylor and Pascal, Froch does his best work when he is coming forward in that stalking type mode and eventually he wears you down and gets to you. Apart from the last 2 rounds against Kessler he was almost always on the backfoot and he looks very disorientated going back and got hit with a lot of shots. Abraham nearly always comes forward because his opponents are willing to go into retreat in the hope of catching him when he opens up because he is just to strong to trade with up close. I think if Froch ends up back peddling and paws out his left hand without intent its more to keep the opponent at bay, Abraham will get close enough to time him as he is going back and possibly knock him out. Froch has to find a way to get to Abraham early, hurt him enough to make him respect his power, take the initiative and boss the fight. No way he wins this on the back foot.
He can back him up in terms of knocking back with shots and offsetting Abraham's advancements, Also bodyshots hurt Abraham but naturally the fight will be fought in the centre of the ring with Froch circling looking to launch his attacks.
See i think when Froch does this thing where he paws out his jab Abraham won't give a **** about that, walk forward close distance and look to land. I mean its hard enough to land on Abraham at the best of times, but Froch's jab isnt exactly concussive and its a bit slow. Froch should throw his big punches at range, get Abraham to go back a bit and then tear into him when he is going back because he can't really fight going back either.
Abraham is in his first Full Contact boxing match at Supermiddle Weight. In all his other Supermiddle Weight Matches, they have only been semi-contact. His oponents have not been aloud to hit him in the body. His defence is crap, whats his defence..? putting his gloves beside his head, and taking shots...? When you facing a puncher like Carl Froch thats a bad move, his power will penertrate through the guard.
Trust me mate Froch has a good jab, just ask Pascal and Taylor because they got hit by it more and more as the fight went on. It's hard to see because he brings it from low and changes it from flick jab to a solid jab. It's not piston like but it's not like his uppercut which is like he's in slow mo.
For once i agree with you . Logic would suggest that if you punch a guy hard enough even if he has a high guard, his arms will get very sore and naturally drop and power shots will penetrate a high guard. Froch has a savage uppercut and he should use it more to better effect. Would like to see him throw ones something similar to the one that he knocked Magee out with. Abraham would certainly feel them!
Im not disputing the effectiveness of his jab in those 2 fights, its just that in this fight its not exactly gonna trouble Abraham or penetrate his high guard.
Fact is the jab doesn't have to penetrate to be effective against Abraham, Froch can use it to set up hooks around the side and lower the hands if thrown to body etc. I do think he can drive through the guard at times but i'd tell Carl ''to throw some with intent but at times look to just use it as a set up to bring Abrahams guard in tight and work around sides etc'' Edit: Dirrell punched Abraham's gloves and they would land onto his face and marked Abraham up...his defense isn't the smartest thing to do.
i dont know how much froch has left he was in a war with pascal to win the title, got outboxed for 10rounds against Taylor, got tottally outboxed for 12 rounds against Dirrell and was in a war against Kessler can he really take another
Another 50/50 fight for Froch - AA hits a bit harder than Kessler but isnt as good a boxer. Hopefully Froch has enough in the tank to get through AA; one thing that points in his favour is that he doesn't have to find him and Froch is the heaviest hitter AA has faced
IMO, the Best way to back someone like AA up, is to drive him back with activity, see some fighters seek respite by going straight back when you throw a lot of punches at them, that is what I anticipate would be the best way to back AA up, only when you have him on the back-foot, you most probably wont want to sustain that workrate, so since you will have established centre ring, you better keep him backed up by getting back to long range and get the jab off to keep him back.
If Froch actually uses his physical attributes (height, range,... defence?) he has a good chance of winning this He does tend to open up every combination with a jab as well.. Imo his tactic should be to utilise his significant reach advantage over AA and throw 1-2s to back him up, then come in with body punches and straight rights. then move out of range again and use the jab to keep him at bay
