Can Fury become as big as McGregor in USA?

It's highly unlikely because A.) His style isn't as appealing to the casuals and B.) Boxing politics are more complicated than UFC, who hold all the aces in MMA.

However, if managed and promoted well, he could become an American superstar in his own right. Knockouts don't guarantee superstardom, just ask Deontay Wilder. And twelve round shutouts don't guarantee unpopularity, just ask Floyd Mayweather.

Combat sports superstardom comes down to a mixture of things. Fury certainly has the talent and charisma that's needed, in abundance. Top promotion, matchmaking and some luck complementing said attributes may propell him to the elite level of stardom few have enjoyed. He's only there a wet week and got handed a deal like that so they certainly like what they see.

ESPN appear a very competent, successful network so he has half a chance.

Plus, the UFC is a juggernaut when it pushes a fighter (see Rousey). Tyson hasn’t got that kind of backing or team to push him.

Conor is must-see viewing. Tyson isn’t.

One guy wears expensive suits to press conferences, is smart on the mic, and is reporters dream. The other guy turns up as Batman.

 

I’m from St Helens, i’ve been asked a number of times by people from places like America, Australia, New Zealand, China (only last Wednesday actually) if i’m Irish, Scottish etc. It sounds absolutely barmy to us but some people from 10’s of thousands of miles away can struggle to tell the difference between certain regional English accents with nearby Wales, Scotland and Ireland that are close-by. I can be in Wales in a car in 40 mins, Scotland in 90 mins. Nearby cities such as Liverpool and Manchester have many Irish. Fury is from near Manchester and has a twang of Irish in his northern traveller accent. When you consider that their perception of the English accent may be what we would think of a southern and/or well spoken radio 4 type of accent then a scouse/Manc accent might sound more Irish to them.

This is just my experience anyway, but I think Fury would sound a bit Irish to an American audience.

 

You`re right and the scouse accent was heavily influenced by the influx of Irish immigrants way back also.

FACT : he has just signed a MASSIVE US deal.

WHY: Because the casual in the US love him like the casuals in the UK love AJ.

Now why else would he have just signed a MASSIVE deal if those putting the money up didn't think he is going to be the next big thing over there??

Exactly. I can now just about tell the difference between an Aussie accent and a New Zealand accent. It’s quite subtle yet there’s 2000 miles between them. That’s roughly the same distance from Liverpool to Athens. Yet Dublin is only roughly 150 miles away. Fury can quite easily and justifiably play the Irish card to an American audience.

I’m 20 minutes away from you (south liverpool). I’ve just googled it and a flight to Scotland is an hour and 5 or driving it’s 3 hours 18 minutes! I think your Forbes list position is a lie and you own a helicopter.

 

I just used google maps from mine to Gretna is 2 hours 2 minutes. Did you turn traffic off, might be chocker at the minute
