Can a glass chin ko be a ccident because a fighter fought at a lower weight class se he couldn't take a punch better.
But when he goes up in weight his chin becomes better.
I kind of think this happened with khan, haye even wlad looks better.
Ali was dropped early in his carreer but went on and now is regarded to have a great chin.
So how if your a glass chin fighter can you overcome it or are you just ****ed and always a ko target?

Well...Ali didn't get laid the **** out, he was just knocked down and back up quickly if I recall correctly. I think that's a very different situation. Haye and Wlad I think partly were stamina issues as much as "chin" issues. Khan seems to have a worse case to me. Maybe it did help going up in weight though if he didn't just gain more muscle but is instead cutting less water weight. Dehydrating affects how hard your brain gets slammed around in your skull from what I understand.

Yeah I think now that Khan is fighting at a more suitable weightclass and he's improve his strength training regime for core endurance he has, and will continue to improve his punch resistence.

Could he ever turn himself into Tex Cobb? No. But to my eyes he has already materially improved his chin from earlier fights.

Look at Cotto. He didn't have the best chin at 140. He moved up and now his chin seems much better.

Khan was a huge lightweight, he's moved up and that's surely helped.

The extra muscle can be added to your neck muscles and your legs which strengthens your chin and you're overall healthier so yeah, being at a lower weight can definetly be the case.

But I worry for David Haye as his defence isn't that good and could get clipped.

We'll find out if Khan ever fights someone who can bang a bit.

Being weight drained can decrease your punch resistance (Cotto, Pacquiao), but I honestly don't think Khan can be given the same excuse. The issue of his chin existed way back in his amateur days, and it was simply confirmed in his knockdowns against Limond and Gomez. In my opinion he wasn't that weight drained at 135, certainly not enough to significantly decrease his punch resistence from average, to awful.

Sadly, Khan's one of those fighters who will have a weak chin regardless of the weight he fights at. But they seem to be working on him the right way, and that's to improve his conditioning, build his body the right way, and of course improve his defence. Collectively, these changes can and will help ensure his chin remains protected at least 70-80 percent of the time

Like others have said, being weight drained does adversely effect punch resistance, but with Khan the jury is still out as to whether this is the cause - and there is substantial reason to believe it's not.

Both before and after he was starched by Prescott, Khan has fought carefully selected light-hitting fighters. There is a reason for this. And it is likely that Khan's ability to stay vertical post-Prescott is due more to matchmaking than improved punch resistance.

Khan was dropped heavily in the amateurs by Craig Watson. There is undeniably a chin issue, although it might not be as bad as it appeared to be at 135.

You know what aswell, a lot comes down to how you take the punch. Khan is tucking his punch a lot more and evidently rolling punches because although he got hit enough yesterday to be marked up, I saw very few clean punches. Against the likes of Prescott and Limond, his chin was up in the air and he never rolled anything.

How the hell have you made a link between "glass jaw" and "Ali" Are you ******ed? Ali got dropped yes, he is a heavyweight, very few heavyweights have retired before without getting dropped. Ali was never knocked out, I think you need to go and watch that left hook from Frazier that dropped Ali, watch Ali's response, and then come back and say if Ali had a glass jaw or not.

But no, glass chin fighters will always be exposed down the line, i.e. Amir Khan will be very soon.

I think fighters with terrible chins, no matter how good their skills, Errol Christie and Mark Breland for example, perhaps fail because getting knocked out badly or by un-noted punchers dents their confidence.

Khan actually fights and talks with a lot of confidence and the guy has great heart. He got dropped heavily by Limond but got back up to break his jaw and bust his ear-drum.

He may and probably will get knocked out again in the future by somebody as he steps and fights top name fighters, but that doesn't mean he can't beat others and go on to have a very successful career.

Glass chin fighter can overcome this, if they work on their defence.

    - For me Roach and Ariza have strengthened Khan' legs - so when he does get hit there is enough power in the legs to hold him up to the shot.

    - Khan is incredibly athletic, where he can literally run about while fighting - you can't hit what is not there!!

    - And now his guard seems to be high - meaning his gloves are also protecting him.

Khan has many instances of being hurt. He definitely has a wretched chin Beating Malignaggi doesn't tell us anything about his chin. If he rematches Prescott or fights Maidana, we'll have some questions answered - if there are any. I think it's just a fact that his chin is a liability, and it's just a matter of whether he can protect it.

Why is Ali being mentioned in a glass chin thread? Ali had a tremendous chin.

Jesus Christ people they won't let Khan fight anyone above a 30% KO rate. These fights don't prove anything. His Chin has already shown to be the worst in the sport and he is the most protected and coddled fighter in the World today.
