Me too!:good Even though my mind tells me Ward clearly dominates. My heart tells me Golivkin can tag him at some point and then what happens????op
Savvy as 3G is, and hard as he hits, I wouldn't rule-out his beating anybody to one hundred sixty eight pounds.
Not necessarily. He's a proud guy, just like Dawson is. It's conceivable he'd care enough about legacy & glory to do what Dawson did, move down for the challenge of facing the #1 in the division below for less than his usual paycheck. If Golovkin keeps building himself up to reach the point Ward was at heading into last weekend... :think Beating half a dozen of the other top 10 middles would be roughly equivocal to the achievements in and since the Super Six. Say he beat Pirog, N'Dam N'Jikam, Martinez, Barker, Geale, Quillin - all in as dominant fashion as he did Proksa and everyone else before him? He'd be pretty close to Ward's p4p status as of a week ago.
They are going to fight each other at some point and we will find out. GGG did beat Andre Dirrell in a big tournament (or was it the olympics?) and called him out after his last fight. If he beats Dirrell again he should be ready for the very difficult challange of Ward. But even if GGG is as good as I think he is (very good), Ward makes a living at beating very good fighters. By the way, I think Ward is as great as he looked the other night. But I also think Dawson is not a top light heavyweight champion. A real rough light heavyweight champion, like Matthew Said Muhammad or several others I can think of, would at least give Ward a very rough go at the 175 limit. Not sure what they would do if they had to fight at 168. And as to people in the Ward camp calling out Calzaghe, give it a rest. The guy is allowed to be too old to fight and still answer a question. He was asked whether he, in his prime, could have beaten Ward. He said he thought he would have been able to. What did anyone expect a former champion to say? Also, he didn't say he could beat Ward now, at his current age. The fact is, even if Joe comes out of retirement unwisely and loses to Ward, that wouldn't mean Ward was better than Calzaghe. Although it would mean Calzaghe should have his head examined. As for competitive fights for Ward, we'll have to wait for the up and coming middleweights to get some more seasoning. Sergio is a small middleweight and will probably be honest and say Ward is too freaking big. Chavez is a big man and will probably give it a go. GGG is a big guy. That fight will probably eventually happen.
It's natural to ask because Ward has cleaned out his division so you have to look for "monsters from the mid," to misquote Forbidden Planet.
This fight would most likely be fought at 168. One thing people are forgetting is that who knows how GGG's power will carry at 168. He might not hit nearly as hard. I doubt he hits harder than Abraham or Froch at 168. With Ward's quality of opposition and the way he's beaten them easily you would have to pick him on that alone. Too many question marks with GGG you know what you have in Ward a complete boxer who will be favored over anyone in the world at 168-175.
Hit harder than a Klitschko, really? Actually Wladimir was there at ringside when GGG scored a 1st round and gave him a hi-5... Happens that we hear a lot of stories about ex-amateur and ABA Champions but when they go on to pass the test like pros they fail. Experienced ex-amateurs like Jorge Luis Gonzales that was simply a man mountain who had beaten Lewis and Bowe in the amateurs but one big overhand right put him hangin low between the on the ropes and the canvas. GGG has not passed the test but he did not fail as yet like the Black Russian in the LHWTs.
Golovkin hasn't even proven a god damn thing at MW!!! Also he's a very small MW, Ward is too good and too big. He's basically a lower level Bute as of right now. Bute was knocking everyone out too and fought much better fighters than GGG has so far. Golovkin looks to be the goods but so did the much more proven Bute and looked what happened to him. I'm waiting til GGG fights a legit test before blowing my load. I doubt he beats Martinez let a lone Ward. I'd give Cotto, Canelo, JCC Jr and Pirog a chance at beating him, I'd favour GGG vs all of them but not by much. Ward would embarass him imo.
Golovkin got silver medal while Dirrell got the bronze. Golovkin denied Dirrell's chance for Gold. Golovkin haven't done much at the pros.
