nobody ko's hagler at middleweight. nobody. but golovkin punches would alert hagler that it's time to go on the attack, throwing from all angles with incredible accuracy.
GGG is great but needs to be in a fight where the other person has an actual chance of winning. Not your Martin Murray's...a Canelo type who has genuine ambition. Until then you can't really pit him against a Hagler, who was blessed to be in the same era as Hearns.
Golovkin right now is basically how Liston was perceived pre Patterson, or Tyson pre Spinks. He's mowed his way through a respectable number of top ten opposition in insanely dominant fashion. But he's yet to face the man. And, truth be told, there's no gimme he beats Canelo right now, let alone Hagler. But we've seen a man who looks to be very durable and insanely hard punching. Hard to gauge his technical prowess because he's never been forced to box and has never faced an elite opponent. I'd say he's easily at the sort of level G-Man was before moving up. Pitting what I've seen so far against Hagler, I don't see him breaking Hagler down. Hagler is more proven down the stretch and has proven to have more dimensions. So I'm gonna say Marvin on points or late stoppage. But within the next 2 years Golovkin might have unified and secured those marquee victories that enable us to view him in a different light. I would pick him to outgun Ketchel though, and that is a huge compliment in my mind.
I agree with part of Burt's post...I think GGG is the real deal, but time will tell where he is ultimately ranked. Right now I'd pick Marvelous over GGG in a very tough fight. But Burt needs to take the time and look at Vito a little closer...was trained by a great trainer in Freddie Brown, and really knew how to fight on the inside. Vito was one tough nut in his day.
Haven't seen you post in a while. Welcome back. GGG is not just a puncher. He has excellent balance, and in the last fight showed an impressive jab.
Yes Vito was surely a tough guy. No doubt. But he was a "bleeder" and was not a very hard puncher...Vito was a "poor man's" version of Jake LaMotta, minus Jake La Motta's thick skin... P.S. Watching some film of Marvin Hagler fights I realize how great a fighter he truly was. And I would bet any amount that Hagler would surely beat any version of the much more mechanical and slower Monzon...
Hagler once got hit by a train. They based a movie on it. Unbreakable. Had Samuel L. Jackson in it playing a crippled villain and Bruce Willis in the Hagler role.
