That punch from Manny would have taken Hatton out in his prime. It was the hardest he has ever taken and would have flattened most boxers under middleweight. I don't think we've learned anything new about Hatton's punch resistance, but I still think he should retire, just in case....
Judging by the way he was hurt by nearly every punch Manny threw (Ricky - you were down twice in the first, it wasn't this fluke you seem to think) I'd say its a reasonable assumption. Especially if you also consider De La Hoya, as good as his chin is, took round after round of punishment. Even David Diaz stood flat footed and ate a lot of leather before being worn down, so it is somewhat alarming Hatton was hurt so easily and quickly in peak condition. I think on this evidence its a fair enough assumption. If he fights again we'll find out for sure, we can rule out simply walking onto shots from a great fighter that is carrying his power and getting stronger. If he got hurt a lot of Amir Khan or Tim Bradley there are problems.
For sure his resistance is gone He was down twice before the KO, not from great shots either He was badly wobbling against Lazcano I'm in no doubt
I never thought Hattons punch resistance was that low. I'd never guess that after what MAB, Diaz and others went through that Hatton couldn't at least take him late. You never know, Pacs a monster and he might be even fitter at higher weights cos he doesn't have to dehydrate as much. Hatton can take power but he can't handle speed with a bit of power. All his truly shaky moments were against speed.
I think there is a good case for it. After the Lazcano fight, people were saying the same things. The whole of the press wrote him off as passed his best after that fight. He was wobbled by Lazcano who was widely seen as little threat in the punching department. If Hatton was ever going to beat pac, with his style, he was going to have to eat his punches at times. Pretty much every one downed him. Despite smothering Kosta he did take a lot of punishment , at times, in that fight. By the looks of it this current version of Hatton would have gone down to some of the punishment Zoo dished. Postfight Mayweather sr was harping on about somefighters never being the same after a knockout - hinting that may be the case with Hatton.
he can handle a punch,as long as it's a slow one!:yep sorry ricky, still love ya,just couldn't resist!
