... win him the fight against Floyd? Don't get me wrong, I'm a Hatton fan, but think Floyd is simply too good, but I've watched a lot of PBF's fights and his workrate while not poor isn't particularly impressive imo. I'm going for Floyd by wide points win, I even have a £100 bet with a friend over it, but the more I think about it the more I cant simply write Hatton off... Now this could be the inane ramblings of a nut hugger, but I honestly believe that FMJ wont be able to stop Hatton, even though he wobbled Oscar I think that was more from timing and accuracy as Oscar came in. Even the cuts thing I dont think is an issue, as anyone that followed Ricky's career knows he cut all the time because of all the vaseline in his brow that turned into hard round crystals under the skin... he's not been cut for a while. So, with that in mind FMJ's only way in my mind is a points victory, but on the other side I cant see Hatton KO'ing the best defensive fighter of my generation, he just doesn't take clean shots to the head often enough, even when he does he rolls so well with it that the damage is limited... so, can Hatton KO him with a body shot? In my opinion, no he cant, so his only chance is points victory against one of the best pure boxers in history (least on talent alone). Sounds stupid to even comprehend, but then I look at the work rate of each boxer and while Hatton is no Judah, he's far from slow of foot or hand and will throw leather for 12 hard rounds... so the question is: Can he do it on that alone? Will he be able to throw enough leather to eek out a points victory or will he be throwing at air all night and made to look stupid? I honestly dont think Team Hatton would take this fight if they didn't stand a hope in hell and I realise that Mayweather is put on some pedestal, but he's not looked all that great to me recently. I thought in the DLH fight he was far to reserved in his aproach and his work rate was poor hence the fight going by way of split decision. (I realise I'll probably get flamed for all of this but I'd like to hear some balanced views)
I'm of the same opinion as you, if money were on it I would go for a Mayweather UD but its also perfectly possible that Hatton capitalizes on PBFs poor workrate and slows him down with bodyshots. De la Hoya couldn't maintain pressure in his fight with Mayweather, Hatton will. This isn't the easy fight for Mayweather that some on here seem to think.
well this is my thinking, I still however feel that Hatton simply wont be good enough, but there's this little feeling in the back of my mind that he can steal it through constant pressure. It all depends on how he applies it, but he's no mug and is smart as hell both in and out the ring, as well as being pretty composed when in a big fight. Bodywork will be his best chance, as FMJ's doesn't get hit to the head cleanly, but seems to take more to the body... other problem there however is that it doesn't seem to bother him all that much, but I've always thought that when Hatton goes to the body no one does it as well. Even Cotto...
I see knockdowns in this fight- i hope Hatton hurts PBF witha a bodyshot early then beats the cr*p out of him. Cannot wait for this
Hatton's biggest weapon is his left hook to the body and it works fine on people who stand in front of him and allow him to fall in. However, PBF doesn't do this it will be extremly hard for Hatton to land this punch in the middle of the ring on PBF, like he did against Castillo. So that takes away one of Hatton's biggest weapons. Hatton is simply outgunned in this fight he will be beaten to the punch countered and fustrated by PBF's movement. Hatton can't deal with slick fighters and that's why he's ducked them throughout his career.
Take a day off with the Hatton hating, that was quite a reasoned, interesting post until the last sentence.
I can tell you're new to the sport easily impressed by a guy who throws 100 punches or goes toe to toe. What you fail to realzie it's things like footwork, defense and ring genralship that win fights. What PBF does in the ring is a thing of beauty. He uses his superior footwork, counter-punching and defense to outbox his opponenets, fustrate them and win by UD. Anyone can get into a ring and go toe to toe but most people have no idea how hard it is to slip a punch and counter until they actually get into the ring and try it for themselves until then they can't fully appreciate it. There's a reason why 9/10 times you pick the boxer over the brawler. I admire PBF because he's a genius in the ring and I respect his skill sets.
