Can having a strong chin sometimes be a bad thing?

It's quite obvious to me that Kovalev lost the fight against Ward because Ward hit him with his biggest shot that he had to offer and Kovalev walked it off with ease. Ward then reverted to his usual tactic of pounding on the nuts of his opponent which, as we all know, won Ward the fight [illegally] due to a referee who was probably paid off. Are there any more fights where having a good chin has got a fighter into trouble?

sorry what? walked it off with ease? kovalev was badly hurt and stumbling after that right hand - that's why the fight was stopped, kovalev was on the roped still hurt and wasn't throwing anything back, before the 'low blows' happend kova was dazed and taking some more body shots before going to the ropes to bend over and quit. Kovalev doesn't have an iron chin either - ward isn't known as a power puncher yet he badly hurt him and kovalev has also been dropped in his career.
Having an iron chin isn't a bad thing, look at ggg never gets hurt or knocked down. Danny garcia also has a solid chin and doesn't get knocked down.

Klitschko - Chisora was one of these situations. 12 rounds of brutal mutilating instead of a nice peaceful KTFO.

Sorry... but i saw Kovalev recover from that shot quite quickly, then a look of fear spread across Ward's face as he realised Kovalev wasn't going down to him with legal shots. This then resulted in him going back to his old illegitimate tactics to win.

I disagree, he shook it off with relative ease, it was the body and nut attack that had him reeling. The fight was stopped because Kovalev doubled over in pain after being hit in the balls, not because he did a little stutter step after Ward hit him with the hardest shot he's ever landed on someone in the entirety of his career..

fair enough, we'll have to agree to disagree. i thought kovalev was hurt and he was hurt from body shouts early on in the fight.

Nut shots won him the fight. Nothing else.

Basically any brutal one-sided beatdown shows the disadvantage of having a strong chin: too tough for his own good.

One good example I think is Lacy, if he had a weaker chin he would have been KO'ed early-ish by Calzaghe and preserved his career.

Edward Gutknecht is now in a coma, very sad; likewise, if his chin was glass he would've been KO'ed earlier and been in better health.

You could argue that some guys with high durability aren't as defensibly responsible as they should be at times because they feel that they can't be hurt by their opponent.

    I'm looking at you Golovkin.

Is something wrong with me? My balls aren't on my pelvis.

    Nothing's wrong with you dude.

When boxing and wearing a cup, the cup covers your balls and you pelvis. Thus many times if you get bashed in the cup it will slam into your balls as well.

Speaking from a few painful experiences I've had.

    Yes it can.

It allows you to become a boxer where your job is to get punched in the face.

But not all boxers have good chins - eg David Price, Amir Khan
