Prompted by Ron Jackson's[who?] ATG lists, I did one for myself ,I found Marciano's name outside the top ten, along with Frazier's. My question is, is it reasonable to exclude these two fine champs from the ten?

For consideration here is my ten in no particular order.

    Holyfield
    Lewis
    Johnson
    Louis
    Dempsey
    Liston
    Foreman
    Holmes
    Tyson
    Ali

[Tyson and Holyfield are relatively recent inclusions who pushed out Rocky and Joe. ]
I'm guessing the most contentious of my picks will be Dempsey & Johnson,
    Thoughts?

Holyfield I could accept but how can you have Tyson ahead of Marciano? The man lost to the best fighters he fought and was knocked out in his prime. He didn't exactly dominate a great era either and although he won the title at such a young age seeing as though he was fully developed physically at 20 I don't think it's as impressive as what Patterson did and what a young Clay did.....

I'd omit Liston and Dempsey for those two.

The biggest argument against Rocky would be that he had a fairly short career.

I can't see Tyson above Frazier personally.
On some criteria he can be reasoned above Marciano I guess. I mean, many of Marciano's 49 fights were against local club fighters.
But seeing as Frazier beat better fighter and lost to better fighters than Tyson, I can't see him being rated lower.

Surely Frazier would beat some of the men in your top 10 though.

"Head to Head is important" but apparently not dispositive? I am never sure what we are measuring when we measure greatness or relative greatness?

If we are talking h2h then it is perfectly valid to have both outside the top ten, although i would be tempted to slot Frazier in there.

Marciano is top 10 based on legacy but h2h, no way.

Neither Frazier or Marciano are in my top ten. Frazier is 1-4 vs Foreman and Ali. The odd thing is Foreman very much defines them both, except he was very close to defeat vs Lyle, and lost to Young.

    McVey's top ten:

    Holyfield
    Lewis
    Johnson
    Louis
    Dempsey
    Liston
    Foreman
    Holmes
    Tyson
    Ali

I'd only favor Frazier over Johnson.
