I would take Rocky over Jack. Big surprise, I know. Ducked no one, beat higher quality opponents.

Because of the evolution in styles , the change in the number of rounds modern fighters box , and the increased pace they do so, a case can be made for more recent fighters being too busy for some of the old guard ie Johnson. So those preferring others that I have omitted from my ten have a point, how valid that point is depends on one's point of view and how highly one ranks the champs of yester- year.Johnson described himself as a composite fighter, having taken the best of the old and combined it with the then newer style of measured , defensive countering .

There are about twenty guys good enough to make top ten. Lewis the Klits, holmes, Tyson and Holyfeild are worthy just from the last 30 years. That could be half of somebody's top ten right there.

I think so long as Joe Louis and Ali are part of a top three you can't be that wrong.. just making a top ten is a huge honour now that we have had so many good champions worthy of greatness.

Personally, I would keep Marciano and Frazier within a top ten because I can't think of a strong enough reasons to pick ten guys to be better than both of those guys.

If those guys don't make it, please list reasons why there are ten greater champions than Rocky and Joe.

Top of criteria must be "was there anybody from their own time they did not beat?" Was their claim as the best in the "world within their own time absolute?

If you were being serious in H2H he's not in the top 20 .. too small .. I'd add both Klitschkos, Bowe, Frazier, Witherspoon, David Tua, Ray Mercer and quite a few others .. no knock on Marciano, just not beating much bigger men ...

But in adding contenders like Tua, Mercer and Witherspoon who realised no actual world dominance in their own time, are you using their onetime most impressive performance against all history?

Re-using a one time performance over and over again in a fantasy is just fantasy because it is putting that person over and above more dependable great champions who did actually realise a comprehensive and undisputed World dominance in their own time.

There are a lot if heavyweights who were either good enough or not good enough to dominate in their own lifetimes. Above them you have champions who were exactly what was required for the time they fought in.

Most of those fights were against absolute trash.
With a few exceptions fighters with losing records shouldn't be counted.

Only 12 fights against real opposition.
    13 if you count Vingo.

14 if you count Lowry, but that's not a positive think for Rocky.

Charles and Moore while absolute greats were past prime old middleweights.
Randy Turpin was more dominant against Cockell (while outweighed 15+ pounds) than Marciano.

No matter. It was what was required to absolutely dominate a good era.

I'd take out Holy field and Johnson for those two. My respective 9th and 10th.

Calling Moore and Charles old MW fighters is ridiculous.

Along with ,"was there anybody from their own time they did not beat",I would put ,how good were the fighters of their own time? The average age of Marciano's best opponents.Moore,Louis,Walcott,Charles was 35.25!

Sorry, Louis is my number 4 heavyweight!

Tyson beats both Frazier and Marciano, imo so I put him in.Frazier has one great win,and two diabolical defences on his record.Marciano beat older men who were past prime ,and is too slow to defeat super heavyweights of ability imo.
