Can I use my 16oz sparring gloves for heavy bag work? I read if you train with heavy bag gloves it improves your conditioning and I wouldn't have to spend more money on gloves.
Most gyms don't allow guys to hit the heavybag with sparring gloves. The reason being is that hitting the bag compacts the padding in the glove, making the glove harder and adding to the wear and tear on the glove. If you want to hit the heavybag with heavier gloves, they make bag gloves that do weigh 16oz, the same as sparring gloves. I know you are trying to save money, but ultimately you really wouldn't be if you wear out the sparring gloves on the bag and end up having to replace those. Get the bag gloves, think of it as a good investment.
