Can Jack Dempsey last 12 rounds with prime Oleksandr Usyk

No. He has 4 rounds to explode but if he doesn't get Usyk out of there within that timeframe (and he probably won't), he will start to slow down and Usyk's pace will pick up and pick apart the holes in his game. Jack's tough but I don't see him and his 188 pound frame routinely taking Usyk's shots well into the late rounds who himself hurts superheavys.

However, I do think people overlook how dangerous Dempsey would be early. People will talk about how Jack's never fought someone like Usyk, and they're right, but Usyk's never fought anyone quite like Dempsey either. That combination of speed, power, explosiveness and coke-head level aggression isn't quite like anything he's faced. Of course that can and has worked against Jack as he very often gets wild and relies on how quickly he can recovery his guard or slip\duck\weave out of danger considering he almost always was the faster man in the ring. Arguably the best infighter and body puncher Usyk's fought too. He definitely wouldn't like how dirty Dempsey is lol

 

I am 50-50 on this. Prime Dempsey probably had the stamina to do so but he could get sloppy sometimes.

Usyk by late stoppage probably but it isn't 100% certain. Hunter went the distance, Gassiev did too so i don't think its impossible for Dempsey to do so.

He gets KOd early. Imagine Gene Tunney 3 inches taller 5 inches longer reach 30 pounds of muscle heavier with all the same athletic ability knowledge and skills probably a little more in all developed areas like boxing skills and physical conditioning. That would give you about what Usyk is. The 6 foot 189 pound Gene whipped Dempseys ass what would the supercharged and supersized one do you tell me?

 

The problem for Dempsey is this: Usyk doesn't mind giving rounds away and running if necessary. In fact, he nearly always starts on the backfoot and cautiously, because he wants to see what the other guy has. This careful attitude of Usyk really pays off if you happen to run into an aggressive wolverine that throws caution to the wind ... like Dempsey, for instance.

 

You do realize Dempsey was shot by the time he fought Tunney?

 

That’s what they say went Hollywood lost his desire etc. but you do know he was only 31. Dempsey had a history even in his prime of having trouble with boxers. There is legend that middleweight Harry Greb was getting the best of him in sparring that they had to end using him.
Usyk wouldn’t have to run that’s ridiculous he has 30 pounds of muscle on him and is a far more accomplished boxer. The fight would be over in a couple rounds tops.

 

Bowe was only 29 when he looked shot to pieces against Golota, Jack had some serious back issues by the time he fought Tunney iirc and he’s visibly slower and stiffer.

 

Age is irrelevant. Plenty of fighters were washed up in there early 20's. If muscles won fights then Weaver and Norton would be the greatest ever. Its irrelevant.

 

Jack wouldn't need that many rounds to finish it, drops Usyk with a body shot and stands over him waiting to maul him if he manages to rise

 

A prime Dempsey not only goes the distance but makes it one of Usyk's toughest fights. How many fast, defensive, hard hitting opponents has Usyk faced? Fury was a big target standing right in front of him, legs and hips shot. Dubois was arguably robbed in the first fight, the punch looked to have landed right on the belt line to me. None of his opponents bob and weave like Jack, they didn't have the footwork of Jack, or the ferocity.

Dempsey had gone from being a hobo riding the rails and fighting for 2 bucks to starring in Hollywood movies and became very wealthy.
He hardly defended his title , and was coated in ring rust but that wasn't what hurt him the most. There's a quote that I heard applied to Roberto Duran after he quit against Leonard and then blew up in the next few years.,,," When the lion is not hungry ,he will not hunt"
