While it's well known that McCain is a huge boxing fan (it's his favorite sport) I did not know that he has actually gone on record as saying he would clean up boxing-good news!

He would also like to pass the Ali Act. Here are some links:

Congress passed McCain's first boxing bill, the Professional Boxing Safety Act, in 1996. It created an identification card system and mandated individual state athletic commissions honor each other's medical suspensions or penalties.

    No, I doubt it.

If he's the president, how much time is he gonna have to focus on boxing with all these other issues?

I forgot he was doing the boxing stuff.

I will still not vote for him, he can work on this as senator. But I dislike him less because I now remember he is working on this.

    Maybe.

If Calzaghe gets past Roy, I see a possible future match-up there, possibly at a catchweight.

You'll get the usual **** about Joe only fighting old over-the-hill types, but McCain would definitely look good on his resume. Years from now, who's going to ask the fighters' ages ?

Assuming Bernard squeaks past Kelly, that's another possible match-up.

I'd love to watch the trash-talking there.

"I'll never lose to an old white geyser!"

Look for Bernard to take this one on work rate (for once).

Or the iconoclastic McCain might go up against one of those over-rated Eurobums. Vit Klit will dispose of Peter and would be an excellent and winnable fight for John. Vitali's gotta be rusty and injury prone.

Since Vitali is thinking of going into politics, they'd have something in common to talk about in the clinches. (Vit wants to be a mayor, just like Sarah.)

Hell, he could have Sarah in his corner in a tight skirt to distract Klit.

Minor problem: Given the Ukranian's height, McCain would have to punch upwards quite a lot, and that would blow his mythology about not being able to raise his arms above shoulder height.

He'd look foolish whining about his POW injuries to his shoulders and saying **** like that, after KOing the big guy with an overhand right to the head !

Whomever he fights, I want to see Larry Merchant (and not that buffoon, Kellerman) do the post-fight interview.

"Tell us, John, did he ever hurt you ?"

Beats the **** outta watchin' some lousy debates !

I second that. I don't really care if he supports boxing...I still wouldn't vote for the guy.
I would love to see boxing cleaned up, but even if the president would have some involvement in it....Do we really need a president focusing on boxing whenever the country is in the crapper?! As bad as Bush living on his ranch half the year instead of being in Washington D.C taking care of ****. Of course he coudln't take care of **** anyways so he might as well have STAYED at his ranch.

Even if McCain would win I guarantee boxing still wouldn't get cleaned up.

This is irrelevant because he's not going to win.

he's a complete douche. He wanted to pass an anti gambling bill on sports.

However, with that being a lost cause..I doubt he'll clean up boxing because he's 'president'.

Well, since the best boxers come out of poverty, and a John McCain presidency will probably maximize poverty in the country... then yes, yes he can save boxing by destroying the economy.

 It'll take more than McCain as President wanting a boxing clean-up, a Senate and House will need to support it too.

Mccain is unlikely to win the election. Is his support for boxing reform contigent on that?
