Can John Murray Surpass Ricky Hatton?

I don't see why people always compare Murray to Hatton. Murray is nothing like Hatton. The one similarity is that neither take a backwards step. But, Hatton had great footwork and he was very fast on his feet. Murray hasn't. In his day Hatton had good punching power, Murray certainly hasn't. Hatton's punche's are much sharper and faster than Murray's. In term's of abilty Murray is nowhere near Hatton and never will be.

 

Murray will never be "just one of ver lads".

No, not imo.

Hatton was a better inside fighter, some say dirty, but he was good at what he did, he was also good at switching the angle and stepping off the line when he attacked you. Hatton did not have much of a defense, but on the way in he would try to set up his offense by slipping inside then going to work.

Murray is like Hatton in terms of aggressiveness, but he is more straight ahead, more conventional, he does not have the footword, or those little saavy moves on the inside like Hatton.

People thought the same of Calzaghe after the Eubank/Benn era. We can't judge until he has had a worldclass opponent. I like him, he is a pure fighter and willing to win ugly. Hatton did beat a old Kosta, and not many HUGE names after... baring the two he lost to.

Hatton would still be fighting now if it weren't for his conditioning and lifestyle over the years, if Murray stays clear how can we say he won't have a equal career?

You only have to look at Murray's fights with Munguia, Al Hamidi, and to a degree, Kudryatsev to raise questions about whether he could conceivably surpass Hatton's career, infact I think you can perceptively see there is a difference between the two in terms of quality, skill.

 

So he is going to go one better and beat two of the top P4Pers? So effectively he has to beat Pacquaio and Mayweather - really? I think the poll result says it all
