He's fighting on the undercard becasue it's excellent exposure. He's steadily building his fan base. Do you expect him to instantly be a house hold name or something?:huh

juan diaz was a bit over-rated by people here. i guess he's not the elite fighter some people made him out to be. he's at best a high tier B-level fighter in the mould of a kessler.

campbell, on the other hand, has to be considered as A-level but not yet elite kinda like guzman and mijares. prob w/ campbell is that he's very inconsistent. he seems to fight in the level of his opponents in a given night. tonight he was A-level. but if his next opponent is not that good, he may drop his performance to a low-tier B-level boxer.

Diaz is A level, he just ran into someone who could beat him. That happens. Campbell fought at an A+ level tonight. Elite fighters lose....

i have a further distiction between A-level and Elite. Elite fighters should only lose to fellow elite fighters. if an elite fighter loses to a non-elite one, it may indicate that he may not be an elite fighter in the first place or that he may be on the way down. clearly, juan diaz doesn't fall in the latter category.

i know everyone can also have a bad night but elite fighters should have the ability to maintain some level of performance to beat lower tier fighters in a given night. if not, then they should not be an elite fighter in the first place.

The boxing landscape is littered with Elite fighters who have lost to non-elites. Lewis losing to Rahman, JMM losing to John, Haye to Thompson etc.

But I won't argue the point. Simple disagreements on borderline distinctions isn't a big deal IMO.

the thing is, a perfect record is not the key to stardom or ppv success. sometimes a perfect record serves as a deterrent in fighting big rewards but risky matchups.
