we'll see come fight night wont we. right now i would say khan has better punch resistance than corley. as i said anyways, it is just my belief that maidana has over rated power. we will know come 11/12/10
I think I've had this same debate with you before. Ortiz was hurt and forced to quit. Did you see the swelling on his head? That's a perfect example of being hit with hard shots. Kotelnik has proven to have a durable chin. I havn't seen the Corley Maidana bout, but did Maidana land anything meaningful? If he didn't, I'm assuming this is the reason why he didn't/couldn't knock him out. Boxer's have off nights, just because a boxer has a big punch...that doesn't necessarily mean they can knock their opponent out at any time. The higher the level you reach in boxing, the harder it is to get that clean punch and knockout.
Khan isn't the best example to use to see whether a boxer has power. I'd put money on a number of boxer's who don't punch as hard as Maidana to put Khan in trouble if they caught him flush.
And no, he didn't run into that punch...watch it again, Ortiz settled down into his stance and then got knocked down!
He doesn't lean back, when he tries to throw the right he throws it off his front foot therefore he has forward momentum
Does he not settle into his stance? (He doesn't charge in head first) His feet are planted to throw, he throws a jab in preparation to throw his backhand. As he throws the jab, he leans back...even if it is very slightly. It definitely wasn't anything like the example you gave below.
yes we have debated this before lol. ye maidana floored corley at one point but wasnt able to put him in serious trouble. and this thing about levels, corley is not a high level anymore. do you really think he would have lasted twelve rounds with amir khan? i doubt it. but ye is he knocks khan out ill be convinced. if he doesnt, then i wont be.
this thread aint about causing trouble, its about lights out. i dont think maidana has the power to put khan to sleep.
I disagree...I believe this thread is about knockdowns, being put in serious trouble, or being put to sleep. If the thread title was, 'Can Maidana knock Khan out?'...then yeah I would agree. But it does say can he take a Maidana punch, which could mean any of the above 3 I mentioned. But anyway, I think Khan wins via wide UD...but I do believe if Maidana can catch Khan clean, Khan will take at least one of the 3 options.
hmmm i believe being knocked down doesnt mean cant take a punch. hopkins-calzaghe. joe could clearly take hopkins shots, but he still got knocked down. i think the ts means a knockout. maybe he should clarify lol
Well obviously being knocked down can be down to something like balance...but I'm assuming if Maidana knocks him down, he will be in trouble. After all...I think almost every time Khan has been down, he has been uneasy on his feet.
