No. A lot of the problem was a (healthy) fear of power and a size difference. That's not something you just 'solve'. Loma had later success because he wore Lopez with feints and missed shots, but that also meant he was dropping rounds he couldn't afford to. This was Jones/Tarver without the devastating KO.
Yes if he lets his hands go and take risks. I think he's become so used to totally outclassing his opponents that when it turned out Lopez could box with him he looked totally taken aback.
Yes,, what the hell was he thinking not throwing a shot barely for the first 5 rounds.. Was like watching an old Hopkins when he fought Taylor or Calzaghe... Clearly the better fighter but not willing to engage or risk anything
Maybe. Team Lopez is going to make adjustments as well.Do you think they wont study the fight? Lopez needs to tidy up his defense the kid has a habit of lowering his hands. This shoulder scroll BS is for Floyd. Keep yo hand up or move ya head.
I think there’s more chance of a rematch ending up looking like Jones vs Tarver 2. Lopez gained confidence and experience from this fight. At 23 he’s only going to get better. Loma is declining.
Those early rounds fitted the Jack Dempsey quote perfectly " All the time he's boxing, he's thinking. All the time he was thinking, I was hitting him" You cannot give away so many early rounds like Loma did and then expect to win. If a rematch happened, Loma gotta be laying down the firepower from first round, as only thing he was "downloading" early on in this bout was punches.
He could absolutely beat him if he becomes more active from the opening bell. The only issue is he'll be susceptible to shots coming back at him and who knows what that'll look like with a fresh Lopez throwing haymakers on him. Loma did very well in the back 6 of their fight but that 12th round sealed the deal. I know Loma has a tendency to start a bit slow in his fights so he can survey his opposition and see what they're bringing to the table but wow was I shocked at his level of inactivity for the first 6 rounds of the fight (sans the 2nd round.) He's a great fighter but he should probably go back down to 130 lbs. He really is a natural FW so he shouldn't be operating too far from his natural weight class.
Of course he can, but will he? He won 4 to 5 rounds tonight pretty decisively, and only got credit for them on one scorecard. He'll have to stop Lopez in the rematch. Just like I said he'd have to do tonight.
Loma is the much better fighter but started too late most likely from his longest layoff. Had he jumped on him earlier lopez would have been most likely stopped late. Loma must feel like a fool losing to a guy who is obviously not on his level. What a bad day at the office.
I don't think he wants a rematch. Because the way he fought is a man that is not too keen of a WAR. He wants to paint master pieces. But he will have to put it all on the line. I don't think Loma is ready for a damaging encounter.
