I think he can become a top 10 ATG at 130 if he beats Berchelt. If he does that, and beats M. Garcia and/or Linares, he might, MIGHT reach the top 100. Even then, probably not. He just won't have a long enough career to be considered anywhere close to the GOAT. That said, what he's done in such a short amount of time is amazing. Becoming a 2 weight world champion in less than 15 fights is no small feat. If we're going by pure skill and ability, he's easily in the top 20. He's one of the most talented fighters I've ever seen.
He'll do very well to be considered in the discussion for best of his era, never mind best ever of a division. He has 0% of cracking top 50 ATG P4P let alone anything higher, and I'd have him a huge dog to crack top 100. He's 30 with two standout wins, over Russell and Walters. The rest are decent wins, nothing ground breaking. Had he done what he done to Rigondeaux a few years previous and at an actual competitive weight, his stock would be actually worth the hype.
He will never achieve true greatness in the sense of an Ali, Duran, Leonard, Mayweather. He has to have fights with great fighters. For that he has to move up and he is simply too small. He will make the hall but circumstances will not allow him to stand among the truly great ATG's
He could certainly make a case as the greatest 122-135lbs fighter ever.. Wins over Russell , Walters, Rigondeaux and Salido in this very first fight are LEGIT. Upcoming wins over Linares, Beltran, Berchelt are LEGIT. I think Pac and Garcia will never happen but that would only add to the legend.
If he somehow beat undefeated versions of Mikey Garcia, Gervonta Davis, Crawford, Spence, Thurman, throw in a little bit of Linares, managed to unify 147lbs. Wins a super fight against whoever runs 154lbs at this time, then id say his career would have been one of the best ive ever seen. Other than that, i just dont see most of the opponents hes going to slap up at 140 and below being big enough for him to create a legacy where he can stake a claim as one of the best ever.
I think Spence and Crawford are too big as well but I was going by OPs assumption that Loma made it to 147.
Point is that he will not even get the opportunity. Look at his current situation; he moves up two weight classes because he cannot get unifications and upon enter 135 he gets frozen out of one title due to a scummy, cross dressing, drud addicted promoter being petty and another due to injury/to quick of a turn around time. Thus being left with a perfunctory debut bout at 135 yet Crawford and Garcia get title fights upon moving up. All Loma can do is impress every time out and hope for a high profile bout on occasion. It's not like the sport will do him any favors just look how he got treated in the Salido fight.
Talent wise, I think he's top 3 best ever. If he can get 2-3 more career defining fights and another belt in a higher weight class, I think that combined with his talent, amateur background and style, he could be a top 10 all time.
Between the limited time he has and the politics, he hasn’t got a chance. He can claim the P4P title I’m sure, and be a HOF’er but anything above is going to be very difficult
You know Loma is not retired yet! You can say that about retired boxers, but not an active boxer! Let alone a promising ATG like Lomachenko
The responses in this thread are hilarious aren’t they? Lol ‘TBE’ is pretty much a matter of opinion. Always has been. And there will be literally billions of people that will consider Lomachenko The Best Ever when his career is all done. His amateur accomplishments combined with the awesome things he’ll do in the pro’s while conducting himself like an actual human being will gain him BILLIONS of fans as the years go on. “BOOK IT!” Lol
