Sad to say, no. He doesn't have the time left to do so and he doesn't have the names to beat. That said, I would not hesitate to put money on him vs pretty much any other fighter based on his performance vs Rigondeux. He literally schooled an elite fighter and made him look like a noob
One doesn't even get a chance to prove whether he is the best or not without big fights. You need to be popular to get big fights. It is extremely hard to be popular in America when you can't even speak English (well, unless you’re a Mexican in California/Las Vegas region ). At one point it seemed that Loma really grasped the language but not anymore... I was quite surprised when Isaac Chamberlain after the bootcamp in Ukraine said that Usyk’s English is quite good and Lomachenko actually almost doesn’t speak English at all...
Like who? Like Klitschko? Klitschkos learned German unbelievably fast. They became "one of us" for the German public almost instantly. They were everywhere -- TV shows, radio, magazines, newspapers, interviews. It all transformed into huge commercial success. And when you’re successful commercially, everybody wants to fight you. Lomachenko is nowhere near that, unfortunately... He’s just a foreigner who earns a million or two at most for a fight and can not offer more that a million to his opponent… And that’s a sad reality…
That hatred is mostly due to envy and a deep resentment that will only intensify with Loma's continued success. I imagine the feeling is similar to seeing that your neighbour has purchased a Ferrari when you drive a ten year old Hyundai.
Let's not confuse mainstream popularity with accomplishments and a never seen before level of talent. Whether "they" like it or not, Loma has redefined the parameters that have remained stagnant for a very long time. The things that he has been able to do have never been done before. Hi-Tech is the greatest advancement that has ever been.
I think he is goat good but there aren't enough world class boxers between 130-140... 147 might be a step too far for him though but if Pacman did it, Loma can.
Except he isn't fighting Berchelt. He's moving up to fight a shopworn scrub with a title. We can almost guarantee that Arum will be very selective in match making as he moves up in weight. I'd give Loma big props if he actually fought a guy like Prograis in the future.
I think it might have more to do with Loma's insane physical skills and technical ability. Fighters that have never considered quitting in the past are refusing to fight after being toyed with. There isn't a top level athlete that would rather continue being embarrassed rather than throw in the towel.
There can be no accomplishments without mainstream popularity – that’s how modern professional boxing works, unfortunately! Maybe a possible WBSS tournament in the lightweight category can break this vicious cycle, but, otherwise, Lomachenko’s future doesn’t seem too bright to me.
Not no but hell no. Boxing is probably more nostalgic and history based than any other sport. The fighters in the top 10 p4p list are too loved and are seen as legends even gods to some and people can be irrational when discussing them, which i am guilty of as well. No matter what he accomplishes, he or any other future fighters will never break into the top 10. Those guys are simply are on too high of a pedestal for anyone to break into their club.
No offense, but this thread is stupid. Loma is quite skilled. Unfortunately, as a 21st century fighter, he will never fight enough to “get a seat at the table” as it relates to TBE status. in today’s landscape, Loma would be in his 40’s by the time he beats them all, fighting twice a year.
