I dont think so. 140 is perfect. At 147, guys like Clotty for instance, even if they cant hit him, they can take his punches. Cotto could take him into deep waters I think. So could Mosley.

Imagine if Williams was in the division still!

At a certain point size does have to become a factor. Even at 140 Pacquiao is barely average in size.

hmm says... I think he'll give one more run at WW for the hell of it..... but it'll be tough. These guys like mexjew said can take punches, dish out punches, and can bully Pac. not saying he has a chance but Hatton was able to rough house, wrestle, and bully pac a bit to land some shots. Now imagine that being elite WW

I think Cotto is awesome, but Manny might be able to beat him. Of the welter's with a belt that is who he should go after if he wants to accomplish that feat. I think Cotto is too skilled for Manny to move up to 147 and KO him, but he might be able to take it on work rate.

How do you guys figure these welterweights wouldn't be affected by Pacquiao's punches? The accumulation and sheer accuracy would **** them up, not to mention their lack of seeing the said shots coming.

Not quite, you have to take the size into account

Take someone like even Cintron for example. He is 5'11 with a much longer reach

Pac and Hatton were the same size, and Hatton was in perfect range for Pacs punches.

At 147, a tall man simply isnt in range. Where at 140 a fighter is a midrange to Pacs shot, at 147 they are long range, which forces Pac to close the distance, which means even if they are troubled by the speed, they can fractionally better anticipate the punches

At the same time, they know he is going to close the distance, which gives them a clearer fight plan of using their reach and size to keep him at a distance.

Think of someone like Clottey, who weighs 160+ on fight night. He has a very tight defense with a flicker jab and loves to counter punch, and is immensely strong. Pacquiao isnt going to be to hurt him, and because of his size he has to fight him in close, which gives a strong puncher like Clottey opportunity to counter.

Pac can still be hurt, his chin isnt granite. At 147 a solid shot is going to shake him.

Can he be competitive at 147? I think so. Can be elite and dominate like he could at 140? Im going to say no.

Berto's my *****, but Pac would put him to sleep

if Pac WANTED 7, he could have 7

if he was to cherrypick like Mayweather

Every fighter irregardless how good he is . . . will always be bounded by physical limitations.

Pac carried his speed and power well to 140 . . . but it doesn't mean he'll effective and sucessful at 147.

In my personal opinion . . . fighting above 140 will be too much for Pac. He'll be beaten by the much heavier guys.

I think Andre Berto may be his best bet to get a piece of the welterweight crown. I just don't see him beating Shane, or Paul (i'd like to see that fight) I don't think he'd beat Cotto either, though that would be a good scrap.
