That's life. Since the CW limit was moved the division has got heavier, especially with the 24 hour weigh in. Not too heavy that it's insurmountable by these men, but heavy enough that they would have to weigh more were they to compete in it, not Louis though, he'd be fine at his weight.
Maybe so but you miss my point. All the SHW guys today, achieving that same weight in the old days would be horrible. To be as functional as they are now they would have to lose weight and still come up short. These "big men with skills" could not function skill being so heavy. Ways of Developing size without losing so much athleticism, movement and pace had not been invented. Primo Carnera and Jess Willard would have better movement and speed today because of these advances. Today We would be calling Willard and Carnera "big athletic men with skill". Ever consider that?
He might fight like this https://streamable.com/d4dk And launch these https://streamable.com/wz3s Full mobility control while crouched at minimal height ready to spring efficiently and quickly. He's no Arthur Spizlka. You have an elite caliber fighter on your hands here.
It is very hard predicting what he'd be like today. It's easy knowing what he'd be like as a CW because that's what he was. Jumping to HW is a big jump that's why he'd have to have the right opponent. Could he forge a path to the title today? Outlasting Whyte should be no issue for him. Defeating a shot Ortiz would then gain him a top 2 ranking. He could beat Povetkin for a title. The road to the championship probably requires going through Joshua and I can't favour him over Anthony.
But Cruiserweight IS heavyweight now. Super heavyweight is the new species that could not exist before. sHW is the sports science result of the Spinks experiment.
Exactly, there's been loads throughout history. The difference now is the contenders tend to be that size as well. Either the traditional sized HW fighters are bulking up due to advances in weight technology or we have an influx of naturally bigger athletes. I tend to believe the former is the case but I've done no research, it's just a hunch I have
Advances in weight technology? More like advances in fast food technology, most fighters today are nothing but lard arses.
