Every one of those changed their style. For one they were all monstrous punchers in the lower divisions and became a lot less reliant on power as they moved up. Rocky at 190 simply doesn't fight at all in the HW division today. If he wants to be a HW he has to add muscle, there is nothing else to it.
We know he's bigger because he weighs about 40 pounds more. Would be interesting comparing Tua' measurements at his lightest with Rocky's at his heaviest.
I don't see him out jabbing anyone to be totally honest. However Juan Diaz had quite a lot of success using pressure without having the ko blow. It's hard to predict how one changes style as they jump up but that's probably the closest style to his if he loses that power.
That's a given that they won't hit as hard but they didn't really change their styles, it was their styles that allowed them to move up with success.
What other style do you think Marciano could employ, boxing behind the jab? Marciano' s style is predicated by his physique, the same as Frazier's was, simply put he has to come forward and get inside to be effective this was the case against 6 foot 195 pounders and would be even more imperative in this era.
Watch Floyd vs Corrales and Floyd vs Canelo and tell me they're the same. Watch Hearns v Cuevas and Hearns v Hill. Watch Duran V Buchanan and Duran v Hagler. Watch Jones v Hopkins and Jones v Ruiz. Changes become subtle over a career but when you compare fights over a large period of time it's easier to see.
What examples do we have of men changing their original style moving up to Heavyweight and being successful?
A fighters style changes in those ways fighting different fighters in their own division not solely because they jump up in weight.
He was slow of foot at that weight so how could he be expected to get inside these big HW'S that can punch.
Another question is,once there, how effective would he be inside against much bigger stronger guys who could tie him up, ala Wlad?
Fitzsimmons, by Pollack. But of course there's no footage so it's hard to say if we're imagining a little bit what we want to with his help. Jimmy Ellis I guess would be the best example.
Galento in the modern era would be a different looking man. He might be even heavier but he would have the kind of six pack that gets the SHW fans approval. yes... I have a feeling this tale of the tape comparison is not of Tua when he was 201lb on his debut. It seems most likely like those stats of Tua are after years of the intense bulking up programmes that came into being after the Spinks experiment. The one stat that could give a better idea of the bone structure comparison obetweem Marciano and Tua might be the fist measurement. The way I see it, a guys hands don't grow when he puts on weight.
What examples do we have of a short, sub-70 inch, slow of hand and foot, aggressive attrition puncher succeeding against modern superheavies? Or would The Rock morph his style into that of a sneaky, elusive range controller who pops off quick triplets and quickly repositions himself, using angles and lateral movement?
