Cotto looked all beat up at the end of his Margo fight.

    Is this Shane's fate too?

I think Shane will box smarter. Win or lose, I don't believe he'll get a beatdown quite like Cotto did.

Which is not to say it would not happen, though.

Shane Mosley does not use a lot of head movement, and a lot of his defense is beating his opponents to the punch. It really depends on how much respect his punches garner from Margarito. Margarito's punches are damaging. If he can walk through Shane's punches to land his own, a "beatdown" is a very real possibility.

No, Mosley has a "thicker coat" in his words, than Cotto. He doesn't mark up, and he generally never looks in trouble in there. Makes the Forrest defeat all the more like an abberation.

Mosley will put up a good show and I agree with him that stylistically this fight might suit him because he can take a good shot without retreating and this should enable him to unload serious leather on Margarito due to staying in the pocket, thus allowing his speed and shorter arms do their work. If Mosley shanks him enough times, who knows, Mosley could do something and have Margo back-tracking.

The smart money is on Mosley starting well and letting his work rate drop - again - and contriving to lose a fight that he was well capable of winning.

    Margo SD.

Then again, one could argue Cotto has a better defence than Mosley so Mosley could be eating leather for longer than Cotto did :think

That makes a beatdown a possibility.

I'm afraid so. An unrelenting puncher like Margarito is just what the once great but now slow Mosley doesn't need.

I think Mosely is open for that left uppercut. Not many guys have the balance to throw one and Antonio has a good one he mixes up with the left hook. I also wonder about the effects of a prolonged body attack and as a result, Shane concentrates a ton on not getting hit to the body. But leaves that head more open as a result. I think Mosely is one of those guys that absorbs far better to the head than the body and sometimes those type fighters will over-compensate while just using alligator arms for offense. A tough bout to win for an old Mosely if he is forced to concentrate 75% on defense. We'll see.

I almost don't even want to watch this fight, I would find it very emotionally disturbing to see Shane Mosley get beat up and stopped.

If i had to bet, i'd bet on Mosley by decision... i think he has a good chance to outlast Margarito's shots and win a few rounds during the process. I think he's a 3-1 underdog, that's worth a bet.

Shane will absolutely not box smarter than Cotto. I've never seen Shane as a boxer -- he's a slugger with handspeed and some movement.

He will try to nail Margarito with straight rights and body shots. This is gonna be a war.

It does all come down to whether or not Mosley can hurt Margarito with his punches imo. If not then Margarito will wear him down.

I may be going out on a limb here, because you never know when a fighters 'expiration date' is up...At 37, Shane might get old before our eyes tonight. But having said that, I really like Nazzim Richardson as a trainer and strategist...one super smart cookie IMO.
Shane has all the tools to give Margarito a very tough fight, maybe even get the win from a genuine bad ass motherf*cker, like Antonio Margarito.
Shane needs to use a JAB forcefully, not just a teasing little flick. He needs to move to his left (primary) and right (secondary) to make Margarito reset in order to punch. You can't run from Margarito, he comes at you so strong he will wear you out, if you are up on your toes attempting to run from him.
Margarito is right there to be hit...No secret. Shane shouldn't fall in love with success. What I mean by that is, after Shane scores with an initial combination, he needs to get out of range.(stepping to the left or right) he could stay in the pocket, and he will score with his punches, but by doing that Margarito will drag him into his type of fight. Mosely needs to score the initial combination and break it off...Always make Margarito play 'catch-up'...In other words 'don't wait for the receipt'...Because Maragrito WILL pay you back in spades.
Last thing, he needs to lean forward when Margarito attempts those lead left hooks to the body.(shielding his body) Shane can move to the left quickly and make Margarito chase him all night. He never needs to meet Margarito head on in any prolonged exchanges, if he does the bigger, stronger man will find him (and beat him)

    Shane has the tools.

    Will he use them?
