just watched the lewis-grant fight, i forgot how big grant is. 250lbs pure muscle, it's just that his technique isn't very good, his chin is not exactly iron and his confidence is trashed. if he gets himself together again and wins a couple more fights do you think he can look good against quality oppositon? in my opinion he has a chance against ibragimov, ruiz, byrd, in other words b+ fighters.

I just watched Grant/Izon, and you really have to give this guy credit considering the very, very late start he had. It wasn't his fault he was so hyped by HBO and proved not to be a top-tier heavy. Still, he had good performances over some quality heavyweights, he just wasn't championship material.

Has anyone seen him lately? You have to figure it's over for him now, but would be interesting to see Grant back in action against a prospect, say someone like Estrada or Kevin Johnson.

na mike grant just wasn't cut out for boxing...a multi athlete in other sports but just couldn't cross over and do anything in the ring ... he beat some good fighters .. but he just wasn't cut for the sport of boxing

awesome guy though...you'll never hear about him kidnapping kids or beating his old lady ...not a real cocky guy neither...

He will be back in action 11th July v Demetriece King a 14-15 trialhorse on a 6 KO win streak including a controversial 4th round stoppage of promising 14-0 Bermaine Stiverne. Grant should win this by decision or late stoppage, the stoppage would look good as this guy has only been stopped once by Briggs.

Mike is returning soon, I love Mike, he was a great character and a very talented musician.. He had bad habits that couldn't be ironed out. His legs and his footwork were most of his down fall. He always crossed over his legs and never had natural balance... If he came back he would figure in some kind of large event eventually because of his sheer size and look. But can he become a major player?? I don't personally think so....

He fought twice last year, a TKO5 and a TKO7, that second fight in September. That's been it for almost 10 months now so I assumed he was going to quietly fade away.

I kept a close eye on the reports of those two fights and it seemed that it was pretty much business as usual for Grant. Physically strong and overpowering, capable of putting punches together in hefty barrages, but slow of foot, defensively patchy and lacking that mean edge that could make him a champion.

Very likeable guy, and like Galileo I like to root for him, but everyone knows his weaknesses now and that'll make it very tough for him to do anything significant in this division.

He did very well considering the lack of experience he had, but Bigcat is exactly right, Grant never got his feet moving right. The loss to McCline was a direct result of bad feet placement, and he often had big problems trying to fight in retreat. His jab is also one of those things that annoys me about fighters - it's really good, heavy and pretty stiff, but he just rarely uses it enough.

Still...he still looks pretty much the same, with that big muscular frame, and the US boxing media always loves that comeback from adversity stuff. With careful matchmaking there could be another high profile fight in him. If he truly wants it enough, which is uncertain...

I hadn't noticed that actually, thanks for the heads-up. So Grant is continuing then.

I like to keep tabs on all the former champions/contenders, especially from the 90s (and even 80s). Demetrice is a journeymen but a pretty durable one. You're right, a stoppage would look good if Grant could get it, though I hope he doesn't overlook this guy. King is young and on a winning streak, he could be unpredictable and ambitious.
