    Good points, it would be a shame if Blackwell was to be prevented from boxing for the wrong reasons...ie not because of real medical need and sound medical basis but rather because of the publicity surrounding his injury.

    Medically speaking his style has nothing to do with it. Also the damage was unlikely to be the skull itself but rather some blood vessels in the area above the brain but beneath the skull. If he passes a brain scan then Mr Smith and the BBBoC should pay him off to avoid the potential PR nightmare. There is nothing in the rules that prevents a man from earning his living in the ring due to his style and nor should there be.

    Agreed. If his scans are clear and he wants to box then he should be allowed to. The likes of Gary Mason were allowed to box with retina problems and you always have the case of Audley with his genetic brain scan issues among others. Can't deny the man a living or if you do then compensate him quietly or give him a cushy job at the Board.

    since its not bone, its external tissue damage as they've said its niot internal.

    Didn't Jermain Taylor suffer some type of brain injury and then come back?

    Not that he suffered his injury in the ring, but Valero also springs to mind. Maybe both cases show that just because scans may clear them, it maybe best to still not let them fight.

    Don't know about Valero but you're right, Taylor did have a sub-dural haematoma after the Abraham fight and boxed on after a break. His brain scans came back clean and he was cleared by a whole load of neurologists. Probably more of a warning for Blackwell though due to personality changes, arrests, shootings etc. that are being attributed to the damage Taylor suffered from boxing.

    About Taylor...i suspect it's probably his legal defence team blaming boxing for his behaviour??? Post Abraham he surely can't have had many fights. So even if he did suffer damage from boxing maybe it was caused by his overall career more than his few post Abraham fights.

    Boxing damage is rampant in the U.S. Much more prevalent than in Europe.

    It's a good excuse for Taylor but very damaging for boxing especially after the NFL concussions payments of $billions. Expect to see a class action suit in 10 years against Al Haymon for boxing related brain damage and then who knows what happens.
