Nick Diaz has a very good striking and is pretty good with his jiujitsu. I thought shields would have a better shot but he never really went for the takedown as i much as i thought he would.

Diaz can handle himself on the ground and is pretty good on his feet too. Could he be the man to beat gsp?:think

He CAN beat GSP as he is willing to brawl and he can submit you on the ground and he knows he will lose fights if he lets a guy get top control. WILL he beat GSP, I don't think so. GSP won't work to his strengths, he'll potshot and take him down for the control.

yea man diaz has better hands than gsp and his bjj is arguably better than jake's so nick should be able to beat gsp as his style of fighting is a perfect match for gsp.

yea i think the best way for gsp to win is to fight diaz much like diego sanchez fought him. Just keep this fight on the ground and outwork him. But i do have a feeling that gsp would stand and strike with diaz since he has improve his striking skills.

This is why i like this fight because diaz could give gsp problems standing and on the ground.

Hopefully Diaz sparks him - when Serra did it totally transformed the way he fights - maybe another sparking will transform him back again :D

lol yea but now he seems comfortable striking with his opponents. This should give diaz a chance to land a big shot that could hurt him. I don't care much for diaz so if gsp whoop his ass it would be good too but i just want to see somebody end gsp's dominance:lol:

This reminds me in a way of the Koscheck fight in that Diaz while not as highly credentialed as a Fitch or Shields makes for a better opponent because he's more rounded. Whereas Fitch or Shields needed to take GSP down to do any real damage, Diaz at least has the dual-threat of his striking and his jiu-jitsu. So in that sense GSP can't take the 'easy' way to victory as he for example did against Shields.

However to me Diaz has been well matched and in reality he's going to even more exposed against St. Pierre than Shields was.

His striking is simply the wrong style to beat GSP - its all about pressure and outworking his opponents with volume punching when GSP usually is the one to push the pace. Plus if Diaz is able to swarm GSP then St. Pierre can just take him down. I'd imagine if the fight does stay standing GSP will use his superior jab and leg kicks (see the Cyborg fight) to wear Diaz down from a safe distance.

As for the wrestling - GSP can take Diaz down anytime he wants. The only question is whether he would want to with Diaz's jiujitsu. Its difficult to judge how effective Diaz would be off his back against a top quality wrestler because its so long since he's fought one. But there's no evidence from him or indeed other members of camp that Cesar Gracie fighters have become better at handling wrestlers. I could easily see GSP holding Diaz down for five rounds.

I think he could do it. My money would still be on GSP though but, awesome fight.

    Can he beat him? Yes.
Will he beat him? I seriously doubt it.

I understand that logic dictates that GSP outgrapples Diaz with ease to a wide and boring UD...

...but sometimes fighting is illogical. I'm going on record now saying I believe Nick Diaz will beat GSP by TKO if/when they fight.

    :good
