Miguel Canto is acclaimed as one of the top 3 h2h flyweight in the last 50 years... but donaire would enjoy atleast 5 inch advantage in both height and reach. Who that be enough for him to beat canto who never dominated his opponent in his significant fights.
Giving away those advantages is just another day at the office for Canto. better to etsablish if Donaire could beat, Gonzalez, Oguma, Alfonso Lopez, Hanagata, Espadas, Park and so on first i think.
was there an elite/good fighter than canto faced that is at taller than 5'4 with more than 65 inch reach?
The point is asero Canto had the technical skills, speed and style that could deal with the fact he was short..if anything he used to his advantage. At this point the gulf between these guys is so massive a few inches in height is really meaningless.
It's too soon for this matchup- Canto proved his mettle, but Nonito hasn't had the same opportunity to prove his yet. I do think Donaire's ahead of where Canto was at the same age, though, and his KO over Darchynian stacks up quite nicely at the top end of the resume....there's just no depth there to show he can sustain himself at the top like Canto did yet. Nonito's promoter just needs to land him the fights.
I'm a big fan of Donaire's but this reminds me of the thread rehashed a couple days ago where Crisitan Mijares was picked to be Galaxy. Donaire has a ways to go before he can be compared favorably to Canto.
meant to say Mijares was picked to beat Galaxy. That was of course before Darchinyian dismantled him.
Canto was a grea fighter and very good technically/defensively. I'm a fan of Donaire but lets just watch Donaire grow before we start putting him in H2H matchups with legends such as Canto. I wish there was more Canto footage I really do.......
