Can he? I don't know much about the guy. He's only 32 years old, though, and claims to have worked hard to get in shape. (But it's not like he's gonna say he's out of shape so who knows) When was his last fight?
Omar Sheika was sort of fringe contender years ago and was never really that good despite being hyped. Lost to decent fighters though like Thomas Tate, Scott Pembelton 2wice, Eric Lucas and Joe Calzaghe (which you can see on youtube). Never that good, just to see how much Jones has left. Really should be able to stop him if he gets out of 1st gear. Also hasen't fought a year and a half, and didn't for 2 years before that.
Sheika used to be a good gatekeeper but that was like 5-6 years ago. These days he's just an old timer who's very inactive. He priced himself out of more fights then you can ever imagine. Can you believe her wanted 100 000$ to fight Bute a couple of years ago? He's very delusional. Probably to many blows to the head.
I think the real question is Does anyone actually give a flying **** about this irrelevant fight? The answer is NO
jones is so sadly and tragically shot anymore...it gets drastically worse with every fight...i think just about anyone has a shot of getting over on him these days. that said, omar sheika has so completely and utterly blown every significant matchup he's ever seen that he might be one of the only fighters within a stone's throw of 175 pounds who doesn't have a shot at taking down the shot legend of roy jones that stands now before us.
in addition, the mma/boxing mixed card is an awful idea. two different sports, two different and opposing audiences. it's a marriage that really should not occur, i think. i mean, i am not saying one is better than the other. i don't like mma and i love boxing. most people lean far one way or the other.
Friends and family might. If they're not, y'know, busy that night. ****, I didn't realize how inactive Sheika has been. He really gave up. It's only now sinking in how truly ridiculous this fight is... it's even worse than faded gatekeeper, it's faded ex-gatekeeper. Ouch.
He has a chance, Roy is beyond shot at this point and anyone in that level has a chance against him in my opinion.
i followed Sheika before he ever faced Joe Calzaghe and remember him flopping on UK soil losing to a journeyman on his only other visit... He is limited but if motivated he could generate a victory purely because Roy is almost done with the game... It will be interesting to see.. Omar is no world beater though , i warn you, he can also stink the joint out with movement.......
