Oscar had a mean streak in him. I'll Point out the Vargas bout. He could take a punch as well as anyone as well.

 

You underrate De La Hoya's ability to take punches. Leonard is a triffic puncher though. In a 12 round bout they see the final bell. The result in a 15 rounder is likely the same. With Leonard winning. I could see a 14th or 15th round stoppage for Leonard.

 

De La Hoya has the outside game to punish Duran coming in. If the match would remain entirely on the outside, Oscar would win by virtue of his blistering left.

In a match without this handicap, though, he loses.

It's not a matter of quantity. De La Hoya had it in himself to be nasty when he needed to be.

 

Still think that for some crazy reason you are arguing both sides is to prolong the life of "YOUR THREAD"?

Either way, I have no problem w/ a Duran pick and think going in he would clearly be the favorite...But to destroy him in 6 is one of the unlikely results which we could excpect?

1st DLH has not during his prime years (or his peak years @ WW) been destroyed. He has certainly shown conditioning, fatigue concerns where he slows down as a fight progresses...But he has shown to be pretty durable.

2nd Duran, not during his ww days from 78-81, did not destroy mediocre guys in 6 rounds or less...

Unless there is a certain style weakness for DLH, a stoppage within 6 is not the most likely scenerio. Duran went 9(4)-1 during this time frame where most of his opponents and all of his top ones went the distance with him....Perhaps if this goes 15 Duran could stop him...inside of 12, the most likely scenerio is this goes to the cards.

looking through the thread very few comparitively are picking DLH. Duran is the favorite, but DLH gets my underdog pick!

 

This is not a difficult equation at all. In fact from it. One guy Duran is a truly great fighter arguably the 3rd greatest fighter pound for pound in the history of the sport. The other guy is a very good talented fighter but not great. There is a difference between being popoular and great. Both at their best Duran by brutal kayo. He beat better and greater fighters than De La Hoya. Duran would have won at any weight.

 

I like Duran alot and think quite highly of him (although top 3 seems a bit faefetched to me SRR-Greb-Armstrong seem like locks to me)...BUT, I am not familiar with this list of boxers, lets go w/ very good/border line greats, whom Duran brutally kayo'd? Who did he brutaly KO that shows, this as a likely scenerio?

 

No way was Duran great at 154.
