He is already an ATG (For me a top 100 fighter qualifies). I will say that the win over Diaz doesn't do anything to move him up though. I said that before the fight and haven't changed my mind. He fought brilliantly, but no more so than I expected him to. So I won't move him up. Now beating one of the winners of the upcoming LW title fights would improve his standing.
I agree with what KG said basically. The Diaz win didn't do half as much for him as everyone seems to think, but he's probably done enough by this point to deserve ATG status. Just depends on how high up you are talking about. Top 100 is satisfactory for me, not sure where exactly though.
in what specific ranking bro? if he can clear out the LW division and beat hatton? I think he can rightfully claim the top ten list.
Hes already top 50 for me. If you can list 50 fighters above him, there would be an easy argument to place him above many of them. Its all a matter of opinion though and very subjective.
Cleaning out the LW division and beating Hatton get him in the top 20. I know you may rank him higher. That's fine. Right now I have him right outside the top 50 (55-60 range) subjectively and just a little higher objectively (48-53 range if I were to sit and make a list. The last list I made is about a year old.
Here's my top 35, and I'll add a few more fighters: 1. Ray Robinson 2. Harry Greb 3. Henry Armstrong 4. Sam Langford 5. Muhammad Ali 6. Ezzard Charles 7. Mickey Walker 8. Roberto Duran 9. Benny Leonard 10. Barney Ross 11. Willie Pep 12. Ray Leonard 13. Pernell Whitaker 14. Tony Canzoneri 15. Barbados Joe Walcott 16. Bob Fitzsimmons 17. Joe Gans 18. Joe Louis 19. Carlos Monzon 20. Archie Moore 21. Gene Tunney 22. Emile Griffith 23. Alexis Arguello 24. Carlos Ortiz 25. Kid Gavilan 26. Ike Williams 27. Roy Jones Jr. 28. Eder Jofre 29. Marvin Hagler 30. Jimmy Wilde 31. Julio Cesar Chavez 32. Sandy Saddler 33. Thomas Hearns 34. Charley Burley 35. Jose Napoles Lennox Lewis Larry Holmes Rocky Marciano Evander Holyfield Michael Spinks Bernard Hopkins Dick Tiger Mike McCallum Oscar De La Hoya Floyd Mayweather Wilfred Benitez Carmen Basilio Luis Manuel Rodriguez Aaron Pryor Azumah Nelson Ruben Olivares Carlos Zarate Fighting Harada Miguel Canto Pasqual Perez Ricardo Lopez Salvador Sanchez Jack "Kid" Berg Jimmy McLarnin Jack Britton Ted "Kid" Lewis George Dixon Panama Al Brown Kid Chocolate Tommy Loughran Felix Trinidad Jake LaMotta Wilfredo Gomez Beau Jack Bob Montgomery Benny Lynch Freddie Miller Vicente Saldivar Freddie Welsh There are in fact quite a few guys in the lower weight classes of the 40's that have much better overall resumes. But I'll let you dissect that first.
PAc is knocking on 50 at this point maybe even ahead of MAB and Erik...HAtton is the most overrated fighter in the last 20 years...I would be hard pressed to bump Pac 10 places for beating Hatton...Id be impressed if PAc beat the Casa/JMM winner AND Guz/Nate winner..Thats top 20 and beyond
Hatton being overrated is subjective though. He still beat Kostya Tsyzu and Jose Luis Castillo (shot IMO). He is a good enough fighter where Pacquiao overcoming the size difference is a significant accomplishment. Besides, he asked if Pacquiao cleaned out LW and beat Hatton. Not one or the other lol.
I currently have Pacquiao ranked in the top 50 and if he could clean out the LW division as well as beat Ricky Hatton, then I could possibly see him in the top 10..
I await those who consider Pacquiao top 50 of all time to pick off some of the fighters I listed earlier and tell me why Pac outranks them in an all-time sense. As for cleaning out the LW division and beating Hatton, neither will happen, so leave it alone. And even if it did happen there's no way in hell he'd be top 10 of all time.
Sweetpea; cmon now. My man Hagler at 29? kidding, kidding Its a good thing I just ordered some dvds of a few of the guys you rank above him, so I can check them out myself. One of these days, after I watch more of whats available for the guys from pre 60s, I will compose my own list :yep
