Can he? I suppose if he KO's Mayweather, and defends vs the best out for a few more years he can. Top 10 all time pound for pound is pretty much equal to the fighter of the decade. A win over Mayweather will cement that for Pacquaio. The best pound for pound fighter from 2000-2010. I think Pacquaio has done enough to rate as a top all time 25 p4p fighter.
Agree with this. Whilst I don't agree that his "wins are more impressive"" the manner of the wins are. And they are extraordinary.
Beating Mayweather is a really good start! Then he has to go on and either clean out 140 or do good work at 147, which is really strong division. Part of his problem is time. Pacquiao and Roach don't see a long career arc for Manny because of his style - the fact that he's hardly been hit in his last three outings might change this perception a bit, but if these boys are as good as their words, the little fellow may run out of time to make the necessary impact. For me, he won't make it into the 10. He'll never be greater than Muhammad Ali, is my guess. But the fact that we are even talking about it is really, really exciting, and I hope the Classic forum takes a long hard look at this guy, because he's a pound for pound great that is happening now and now one-hundred years in the past.
What if, PBF wipes the floor with Pac?? Coming out of retirement to face JMM as a 'warm up', then potentially facing Pac in a financial Everest??? Would this just give some better/different perspectives?? IMO, PBF will be the true test. 6 divisional titles is wonderful. Unifying 3 definate divisions is magnificent. Pacs made a bloody great impact... Armstrong left a ****ing CRATER.
Agree that Mayweather is a huge fight if it happens. Don't be surprised if Roach finds a way to make it un-happen.
if he beats mayweather for me hes top 10 P4P but i really dont see that happening and whoever wins out of FMJ-Pac will be fighter of the decade
Well, the 'dog-collars' are more than prevelant, and its down to the basics.. fighter vs fighter. If Manny does get the better of PBF, then he will have a huge culture of following for a looong time. Good on him. There should be a few more seasons left in him also.
Pacquiao needs a great trainer IMO. He's a Louis not an Ali when it comes to plans, he executes, he doesn't design, and he doesn't adapt (Marquez I and II). But I think that's a good thing given his superb physical advantages - so Roach is a huge part of his success, just like Blackburn was with Louis.
how do you see him going with say Buddy McGirt or Dan Birmingham do you think he could still have got to this level i really agree with you btw i do think Roach was a big part of sucess and is the best new trainer in a while
Oh, couldn't say, I always feel that speculation regarding how a fighter and a trainer will gel is just that, you know?
yeh but i wasnt meaning that as in how they gel but i was meanig they arnt so great tactical coaches do you think pac would do good without such a great game oplane
No. He needs the plan, he needs a great plan because he just isn't adapting in the ring I don't think, I don't see him making his own adjustments.
Well he goes into the ring and he does it. I wouldn't hamstring a fighter because he has a great trainer. Ali without Dundee is impacted and if Louis had remained with Louis he'd have done less well too.
