Bute, Kessler and Dirrell will all be back on the scene looking for opponents soon and surely Pavlik will be on their radar if he beats this Lopez guy. I think he should fight Bute. Bute is seen by many (not me) as the top dog and he is the biggest name of the three. Not only that, but I believe Pavlik has the best chance against Bute. Dirrell's lateral movement and speed is all wrong and Pavlik would probably look silly against him. It's difficult to tell how much Kessler has declined but I believe the Kessler that beat Froch would also beat Pavlik.
No dont think so, unfortunately for Pavlik, he's in the toughest division in boxing. He could give them all tough fights though.
Think you're underestimating Pavlik just a tad there. Pavlik only lost to an ATG and possible future hall of famer in a fight where he was not in good shape both physically and mentally.
this i feel sorry for the guys coming up like degale there arent many easy fights at the top, stieglitz is the weakest champ imo and hes not a walkover.
I see no reason why Pavlik couldn't knock out Bute. Pavlik is obviously the less skilled fighter but Bute is no Hopkins and he has been hurt (some say knocked out). Pavlik would be a live underdog. I'd give him 35% chance of winning.
90% sure he loses to Ward, most likely to Bute, but has a pretty good chance vs. everyone else. Vs. Froch the question is whether he can keep Carl at the end of the double jab, a weapon that could be very useful, and vs. Kessler if he can make it a shootout because Mikkel has a faster and more accurate jab. Sartison, Stieglitz, Andrade, Bika, Green, Johnson, he can beat these guys and I think the pressure could get to Dirrell too.
I think he needs to beat Lopez first and take another fight at 168 before challenging any of those guys, to get used to the division and to be sure he can make weight comfortably. He's still a big guy for that division, and I still think he will settle in at LHW at some point. He may not be the most skilled guy there ever was as far as speed and movement, but he can hunt you down and his shots wear guys down over the fight. That's a skill in itself that can't be taught. He's very consistent in a fight and just keeps walking you down and throwing. He's been out of action for 13 months so I think he needs a fight or two to get back into the swing of things, but I certainly believe he can challenge any of these guys at 168 and give them a hell of a fight. It won't be pretty, but that's not Kelly, he's a fighter, he will get hit but I think he can take more to get his shots off and that wares guys down mentally and physically. Time will tell.
It depends whether his power is as effective up at 168, I very much doubt he can outbox any of them and he will not have his usual size advantage over them that he has at 160. I don't see a good future for Pavlik.
I disagree with Pvlik being big for 168. He was a big middle but I see him in the same boat hatton was in. A big part of his fight game was his strength andsize, now hes with guys as big as he is and I doubt his power will be the same and his style just wont be effective with guys he can't break down. I hope I'm wrong because I like Kelly
I dont know I am a big Pavlik fan but he has been so inactive not to mention his 2 fights over the 160 lb limit vs Taylor and Hopkins he struggled Ward, Bute, Froch and a few others would give him hell I think guys like Abraham who moved up and didnt fill out the weight well or dont fight well at the weight are beatable I think he should grab the easy belt off Stieglitz I mean the other 2 are in the tourney and Bute has the other he had the WBO 160 title so hes bound to be ranked at 168 take Stieglitz title then big money unification vs Bute before the S6 is over
